I woke with a jolt hearing a loud noise. I looked to my side and saw that Alec was not sleeping next to me. Thinking it'll probably be him; I went to washroom and quickly dressed up and went out to see what was causing the rift. I saw Alec in the kitchen trying to make breakfast.
"Did I wake you?" he asked with concern.
"Yeah, how else could I have woken up?" I said, joining him in the kitchen. "What are you doing?"
I started cleaning the mess he had made while cooking.
"I was making breakfast. Clearly it didn't end well." He said with disappointment. "Well, be glad I didn't wake the kids."
Too soon, as I heard footsteps coming descending the stairs. First, came in our first born Bryce Hunt rubbing his eyes followed by his younger brother Dylan. Both were wearing only shorts, guess there was something more than just their looks they got from their father.
"Mom, what's with all the noise? It's the weekend." Dylan said he seated himself on the dining table.
"Your dad is making breakfast for us." I explained. "And how many times have I told you not to roam around the house wearing just shorts." I said glaring them a little.
"Chill mom." Bryce waved a hand as he started eating the breakfast. I rolled my eyes at them.
"Mommy, is breakfast ready?" Annabelle came dressed in her pajamas.
"Yeah honey, come on sit down." I gestured her to sit down as I helped Alec in getting the job done.
It had been almost fifteen years since we got married. We had three kids. Bryce was fourteen, Dylan was ten and my little princess was only eight. Brandon and Laura had two kids. Matt was sixteen while his sister Lily was almost fourteen. We had gotten closer after wedding. Today we were supposed to go to a picnic which the kids were insisting on for days.
I heard the doorbell rang. "Sweetie, would you look who's at the door? It's probably Uncle Brandon and Auntie Laura." I asked my boys to open the door.
Both their eyes went wide and they rushed back upstairs hearing it was them. Whoever was at the door was being stubborn with their hand on the doorbell. I rolled my eyes and went to open the door. I opened the door to see the happy family with the man of house grinning with his hand on the bell.
"Do you want me to kill you? If not then remove your hand from the bell." I snapped at him. He just grinned in return. I hugged Laura and their sweet little daughter. I ushered them in the house. They all sat down. Matt went upstairs probably in search of the boys. Alec and Brandon started talking while Laura and I prepared for the picnic.
"Aunt Zoe, where is Bryce?" I turned to see little Lily standing behind me.
"The boys are just getting ready. Why don't you go play with Anna for a while?" She nodded and left.
"She has been talking about him all week. I think someone had a crush." Laura giggled.
"Yeah, there must be something. When I asked himto open the door he ran upstairs to change." We quickly packed and left for thepicnic spot. It took us fifteen minutes to reach that point and all the way Icould see Bryce and Lily sitting together chatting and laughing. What wouldBrandon say if they really liked each other? I heard guys are really protective of theirdaughters. I wouldn't know.
