I turned in my bed, throwing the blanket off of me and looked out of my balcony door's window. The moon was already high in the sky and I hadn't even closed my eyes.
I sluggishly got up, heading downstairs to the kitchen. The light was on.
"What are you doing awake?" Alex jumped as I asked.
"Oh, no reason," she turned her iPad off. "Just scrolling through Facebook. I only go to sleep at like two on the weekends anyway."
I looked at the clock that hung above the microwave.
"It's half passed two already," I raised an eyebrow at her while switching on the kettle.
"Why are you awake?" She rested her head on her palm.
"I'm just not tired," I wrapped my arms around my chest. "My and Nathaniel's last conversation keeps going through my head. It's been a few days but it's still vivid. I feel like I've lost him before I even found him."
She smiled ruefully at me.
"Well," she looked down at her other hand. "I'm not encouraging you to go to him right now but I do want to just say that I have extra keys to his apartment and I may or may not have his address."
I raised my eyebrow, making my cup of tea and lifting it to my lips.
"You should go to him, Ciana," she rolled her eyes. "He's just as stubborn, if not more than you. And I'll bet you right now, he'll be awake."
"I can't go at this time!" I whisper-yelled, placing my cup in the sink.
"Hell yes, you can," she grabbed my arm steering me to the elevator. "And hell yes, you are."
We walked into my bedroom and she walked into my cupboard, grabbing an overnight bag. She shoved a few articles of clothing into it before walking into my bathroom and shoving the necessities in.
"You're spending the weekend there, Luciana," she dropped the bag in front of my feet. "We can take care of ourselves for two days, I swear. And mom won't ever find out about this."
"Alex..." I frowned.
"Please do this one thing for me," she clasped her hands in front of her chest. "Please, please, please."
I sighed, picking up the bag and shoving my feet into my black flats.
"I'm still in my pajamas," I gestured towards the pink t-shirt and cupcake covered shorts that I was wearing.
"Oh well," Alex grabbed my arm again, pulling me back downstairs. "His address is already programmed into the GPS in the cubby of the car. Here are his spare keys."
She shoved the spare keys as well as the car keys into my hand, leading me to the car. I got in reluctantly.
"You're a damn idiot," I told Alex, opening the window to talk to her.
"You love me," she stuck her tongue out. "And one day, your children are going to thank me for this. For shoving you in this car to go make them with their daddy."
"You are repulsive," I laughed, putting the car into drive. "Please be safe and please call if there's an emergency."
"I will, you old woman," she stepped away from the car, waving.
I waved back before pulling off, butterflies fluttering in my abdomen. Once I got to the gates, I pulled out the GPS, finding Nathaniel's address and hooking it on the windscreen.
"One hour, seventeen minutes," I read, pulling into the main road.
I settled myself into my seat for the long drive.***
"You have reached your destination," the GPS blared out and I pulled into the entrance road of the apartment blocks.
A security guard opened up the gate and I drove in, searching for Nathaniel's apartment number. Once I found it, I pulled into the parking next to it.
I grabbed the spare keys, checking the time. It was just passed four in the morning and I was completely exhausted.
I got out the car, closing the door as softly as possibly. I silently walked to the front door of the apartment and noiselessly put the key into the lock, satisfied as it made a click and the door swung open without a sound.
I walked inside, closing and locking the door just as quietly.
The apartment was mostly dark except for the few beams of moonlight shining through the open windows. I assumed the bedrooms would be upstairs so that's where I went.
Upstairs only had three rooms. A bathroom, a study and a closed door. I mentally did a victory dance when I silently opened the closed door and saw Nathaniel's sleeping frame. I walked in, kicking off my shoes to walk on the soft carpet.
Nathaniel was facing the window, the moon reflecting off his pale skin. He looked peaceful as he slept.
I not so subtly got onto the bed, sliding underneath the blanket. A sigh escaped my lips as I relaxed, closing my eyes.
I jumped as I felt Nathaniel's fingers wrap around my hip, pulling me closer.
"You're here," he murmured, voice rough with sleep.
I relaxed into his chest, throwing my arm over his ribs.
"Go back to sleep," I whispered.
His hand came up and tangled into my hair, his other arm pushing under me to cradle my body to his.
"Mm, I missed you," he rested his chin on top of my head.
I smiled, kissing his bare chest.
