Fifteen minutes later and Cole hadn't come back with her yet. Haley came into the living room with me and sat down. "Where'd Dad go? I thought we were going somewhere."
"Hey did you happen to see Ella leave the house, Haley?" I completely ignored her question because I was in my own thoughts and I think I confused her but she answered me anyway.
"No. I saw her come out of her room after she went upstairs and shut the door but I didn't see her leave. Why? Where's she?"
"She, uh, why don't you go find out what Max is doing?"
"Is something wrong?"
"No, he just might want someone to race his cars against or something."
"I'm ten now, Mom. I can pick up when you're thinking or when something's wrong. I'm your daughter, remember?"
I put my hand on her arm and smiled. "Yes, I remember. You're a little too much like me in that sense."
"So what's wrong?"
"Ella isn't here. We don't know where she went off too. Are you sure you didn't see her leave?"
"No, where would she have gone?"
"I don't--" My phone started ringing and it cut me short. Without out even checking to see who it was, I picked up. "Hello?"
"Ella's here. She's fine." It was Luke. I sighed out of relief. "I found her out in the barn talking with Bo. You normally tell me if you're dropping her off so I figured you must not have known."
"Thank you, Luke. I've gotta go get Cole and tell him."
"Tell me what?" I heard the back door shut behind me and Cole walk up next to me.
"She's at Luke's house."
"How'd she end up there so quickly?" I shrugged before telling Luke thanks again and that we would be over there soon to get her. I got up and practically fell into Cole's arms and started crying just to let everything out.
"I thought she ran away or something. She had me so scared."
"I know, I know but we know she's okay now." He was holding me tight and running a hand up and down my back to help me feel better. Then he turned to Haley. "Haley, everything's fine. Can you go into the other room with your brother for a minute though?" She nodded and left.
"I suppose it's my own fault though."
"What are you talking about?"
"I know that getting your phone taken away shouldn't be a reason to take off like that but it was her reason. And I'm the one who made it be a reason for her."
"Bridgette, honey, I know you're upset but you took that away for a good reason. And you're right, that wasn't any reason for her to take off. This is all on her. Unfortunately it looks like she is going to be like me in some ways. And besides that, she's almost a teenager, she's going to start acting up like this."
"I'm just relieved that she's fine. I mean, from here to there is a twenty five minute walk. I don't understand how she got there so fast and I hate the idea of her walking down Balon street. There are a ton of cars that fly up and down that one."
"Let's not worry about that right now. Let's go pick her up and find out what she was thinking." I wiped my face and went to get Haley and Max.
We pulled in Luke's driveway and I saw Ella sitting on their front porch with Luke. She had her arms and legs crossed like she was still mad. This made me lose everything I'd been feeling at the house. Now I was mad. After taking off on us and scaring us half to death she was still going to be mad? I told Max and Haley to go straight in the house and find Tate or something to do while we talked to Ella.
