Ella's POV

"What do you think that was about?"

"I don't have a clue. Just my dad being a dad, I guess." Bo and I walked back to where the food was and I saw my mom. "Hey, Mom!"

"Yeah?"

"Is there a reason why Dad would've told Bo and I we can't hang out alone anymore?"

"Oh geez, I didn't mean-- I'll talk to him. Don't worry about it."

"What's up?"

"I was joking with him because you're 13 now. I told him that you were going to start liking boys and--"

"And he thought that was going to mean him!?" I pointed to Bo and he acted hurt.

"Hey! What's wrong with me?"

"Nothing you're just... you're just you. You're my best friend and that would be really weird."

"If I remember correctly, you had a crush on me when we were six."

"Yeah, I know. That was a off year for me." He rolled his eyes and I laughed. "Seriously though, Dad doesn't need to worry about me."

"You know he's going to, Ella. In case it's slipped your mind, him and I were best friends for twenty plus years and ended up together so that's probably what he's seeing in you two."

"Eww, just tell him he doesn't have to worry about it."

"I'll take care of it. Don't worry about what he said."

"Okay, thanks Mom."

"No problem, sweetie."

"So we won't get in trouble if we go back up there?" I pointed back to seats. I had a major sarcastic tone laced through my words and my mom glared at me.

"There's no need for the sarcasm but yes, it's fine. Why don't you head up to that box though. We're all going to be up there in about ten minutes anyway."

"Alright." We started our walk up there and I was checking a message on my phone.

"You know, you really could of hurt my feelings before. You're not even going to say sorry for it?"

"Sorry for what?"

"You said 'eww' when you're mom said that we could be like her and your dad."

"So?" I brought my phone down and looked at him, disgusted. "What? Are you looking to be like them? Because if so, you can go find another best friend to be like that with." I laughed thinking he was joking.

"Really? You wouldn't want something like that?"

"Whoa um, you're serious!?"

"Nope, just messing with you."

I smacked his arm as he laughed. "You're an ass. You sounded so serious!"

"Whoa! Language!" I turned around and Carter was about 10 feet behind us.

"Sorry."

He shrugged. "Oh, I don't care but I don't think you're parents would like you cursing like that. They especially wouldn't like it if I didn't say anything. Pretty sweet how your mom was able to get that party set up for you up there, huh?"

"What?"

"Nothing, just keep walking." His eyes widened and he shooed us with his hands up the steps. I looked over at Bo and started running. Must of been why my mom wanted us to go there. It was only a couple minutes before everyone was there with us.

"Thank you, Mom. This is awesome."

"You're welcome, happy birthday." I gave her a hug then turned to my dad.
