Turning around, you checked yourself in the mirror for the thousandth time that evening.
You had just finished curling your hair and perfecting your make up because your friends would pick you up any minute now. There was this stupid birthday party at some stranger's house that you didn't even want to attend to. But your friends never understood what "no" meant. It wasn't unknown to them how much you hated going to any type of social events, because you never felt comfortable; you always felt judged, looked down upon and that's a feeling no one wants to experience. So the answer was simple: you would always stay at home.
But they never understood your reasons, and they kept pushing you and pushing you with lame excuses like "It's just this one time" or "you'll have fun we promise". But it was never just one time, and you never had fun. You ended up left aside in a corner, no one being interested in talking to the girl who didn't enjoy the music, or didn't enjoy being stepped on and pushed around by a mass of drunk bodies who were clearly having a much better time than you. But being the pleaser you were, when people insisted too much, you saw no other choice but to say yes.
Even if saying yes meant having an awful night.Your thoughts were interrupted by the vibrating sound of your phone over the night stand. That could only mean the torture was about to begin.
It was indeed your friend Madison letting you know she was outside waiting in her car.
You sighed and checked yourself in the mirror once again before leaving. Not bad.
The platforms made your legs look longer than they really were, and your feminine skirt and top made you feel a little more confident, not only about yourself but also about that night. Maybe it wasn't going to be so bad, maybe all you had to do was think positively and good things would happen to you.But you were wrong.
Nothing about that night was enjoyable for you.
You were with your usual group of friends that actually enjoyed partying. Some of them were drinking and smoking, some of them were dancing, grinding their bodies against each other.
And there you were, stuck with a bunch of people that could care less about your presence, sometimes trying to include yourself in a conversation, only to be interrupted by someone with a louder voice or a better joke to tell and everyone went back to ignoring your existence.
It was the same as always and you damned yourself for not being able to ever stand your ground. You were never a person who enjoyed confrontation so you avoided it at all costs. Even if that meant going to places you didn't wanna go, only to not have people be mad at you or yelling at you for being the way you were.
Eventually you just decided to stop trying to feel involved and just stared at the bottom of your empty cup, listening to the crow around you laughing about something so hilarious a person much more charismatic than you probably said.
