The doctor walked back into the room, followed by a nurse that was holding Darcy. She was wrapped in pink blankets with a pink hat on her head. The nurse gently placed her into my arms, and I held her tight. She was so precious, I was speechless. She had plump cheeks with beautiful light-green eyes like her father.
Harry took a step closer and kissed Darcy on her little forehead. He put his index finger in her fingers, her whole hand slowly gripping around the finger. Harry smiled, tears forming in his eyes. His emotions were worse than mine right now.
"I'll leave you alone with your newborn for a little while, then come back in with the test results." the doctor smiled and walked out of the room, the nurse tailing his every move.
"Hello baby." I said to Darcy, rubbing her cheek softly with one finger. She was still and quiet, although her chest was still rising and falling, "Welcome to the family."
"Darcy, you're beautiful." Harry said, sniffing, "I just can't believe this day finally came, I never thought it would."
I turned my head to Harry, puzzled, "What do you mean you didn't think it would happen?"
Harry hesitated, not sure if he was ready to explain."Well, before I met you, I was that one-night-stand kind of man that everyone hated. When that happened between us, I felt something. It was almost like- like a spark. When you ran, I was upset. I didn't do anything with myself unless I had to. Then when you showed up at my final concert, I was so relieved that I treated you like a girl's toy doll again because I missed you so much. But now, we're here. And I never expected us to get here, because I didn't think you'd stick with me this long." Harry sighed, eyes on Darcy the whole time, tears sitting on his water line.
"Harry, I really had no interest in you at all from the start," I began, afraid I would mess up if I kept going, "Once I figured out I was pregnant, though, everything changed. You became so much more kind and caring, and you turned into the perfect man. I've loved you since that change happened. Now we've made it this far together, still in love, so why not keep going?" I smiled at him, unsure of what his reaction would be.
"Layla," he paused, "I'm sorry about how I treated you the day we met. That used to be who I was, but now I'm completely different. I'm a real man with a real purpose now, and that purpose is to protect and serve you, my love. Ever since I became a father, I've been enlightened on how much better of a person I am able to be, and slowly I try to become that better person. I'm so sorry for the way I acted before, I hope you'll forgive me." I realized Harry had matured from this process too, and we both acted more the adults than we ever have.
"What is there to forgive? If you wouldn't have done what you did, we never would have been in love and in this situation. We never would have had a reason to meet, and we would both end up with different people. Would you want that? Because I don't want that and I never will. The past is this past, erase it from your memory. Our time is now, and we're lucky enough to love and have each other." I said to him, crying now. Looking over to Harry, I saw him tearing up too.
The doctor walked in on both of us crying, "Emotional time, isn't it? I know how it must be, a young couple like yourselves with a child, it must be a great day!"
I chuckled, and Harry brightened up a bit. The doctor pulled out a clip board and the same nurse ran into the room again. She stood next to the doctor as he did everything, she just watched it all happen.
"Well, your baby is healthy, that's for sure. However, there is one minor complication. Your daughter has a slight case of Down's syndrome, a genetic disorder that impacts intellectual standards of the child. Though it is a small case, she will still have complications and might need tutors and extra help learning or doing things later in life." the doctor said calmly, knowing exactly what he was saying like he had it memorized.
"She has Down's syndrome?" I asked as if I missed everything he just said. My voice shook as I talked, knowing Darcy might not be that "picture perfect" daughter the press wanted, and even Harry wanted. I turned to look at Harry, his eyes wide and his mouth ready to drop open. His hands gripped the chair he was sitting on, hard enough that the veins in his arms popped out slightly.
"Yes, though it's not as bad as most children. She still will have it though and it will be noticable, but not nearly as bad as some we've all seen, bless their souls." the doctor answered, still calm.
Harry reached over and picked up Darcy slowly out of my arms. He looked at her as she was cradled in his arms, tears threatening to fall. His gaze stayed on her, and it seemed as he acted like he was the only person in the room.
"My daughter has a disability." he stated, voice shaking. I looked at him, knowing this wasn't the kind of Darcy all the fans had thought would come along. Everyone expected a beautiful girl, nobody expected a mentally disabled girl. He probably regretted everything that had happened between us now.
"Harry-" I started, trying to comfort him, but he silenced me with a 'shhhh' noise. I wanted to apologize, but I couldn't with him cutting me off.
"I love you Darcy, I told you months ago I'd love you no matter what, and I wasn't messing around. You'll always be daddy's little girl, and I'll always be here for you. You're everything I've ever wanted and more, don't ever forget that." he said, tears falling from his eyes. He kissed her forehead again, and I smiled at him, tears lining my own eyes. We were finally a big, loving family.

Fanfic"I'm still single," he said, "and I'm staying that way for a while, I have my reasons." The voice matched the one that growled in my ear last night. I touched my fingers to my bottom lip, then my top lip. The ones he kissed. I remembered everythin...
