Dinner was almost ready when I decided to go to Amina to pick baby Yazid. I hoped he was asleep. I didn't know whether to tell him about the baby or not. What would he think of me?

Wait, what do you care? I scolded myself. Let him think whatever he pleases.

"I hope you know how to cook." I said with my robotic smile.

"The only thing I know how to cook is my breakfast cereal." He smiled down at me. For a moment it felt like we were back in my mother's old kitchen.

"That's good enough. Keep an eye on the stew I have to get my baby." His eyebrows shot up. I could read excitement and disappointment in his eyes.

"You have a...?"

"What did you expect? That I live alone." I said and left him in the kitchen. I was pretty sure he was confused.

It took me only ten minutes but my kitchen was in a total mess already.

"Wow!" I exclaimed. "I didn't know it takes more than just an eye to look after the food."

He laughed a little and suddenly everything felt fine. He pushed his hair back and looked at me. His eyes rested on my arms. Yazid was fast asleep. It was usually easy to read his expressions but this time I couldn't interpret his look.

"You weren't kidding." He finally said after a long silence.

"Haytham, meet Yazid, my little boy." I smiled and I swear it wasn't robotic. He quietly walked towards us. Curling his fingers around Yazid's little palm, he looked at me and our eyes met, mine jade green and his crystal blue.

"He is cute. How old is he?"

"Five months." I answered proudly. "I better take him to bed."

I wanted to wait for Tamim before serving dinner but I was starving and Haytham was around. I made Ginger tea the way he likes it. At first he was too engrossed in it, that he didn't talk much. Then he asked what I was expecting.

"She died." I said and did not allow my face to show any emissions. I saw his forming into a frown, then a crooked smile and finally he seamed to be struggling with tears. "It's OK because she wasn't shot or blown to pieces. She died at home. It was a heart attack."

He seemed distant for a while. I felt suffocated. Why does he keep quite? Am freaking out.

"She was like a mother to me. It was just for a week but it was real." He said and just as I thought it couldn't get worse, it got worse. I saw  a tear fall from his left eye then another one fell. I suddenly felt the urge to reach out and wipe it but I didn't.

"Haytham please...?" I stopped because I didn't know how to tell him not to cry. I mean seriously, I have been waiting for someone who can help me cry it all out.

"I am sorry." He said as he wiped the tears with the back of his hand. "This is not appropriate. I should get going because it's getting late."

Wow! Great work. You have just ruined his night. Said my heart to my brain.

Yeah right. He asked for it. I wouldn't have told him if he didn't  ask. Went the brain.

You are so heartless. My heart retorted.

Exactly, you deal with emotions not me. Replied the stubborn brain. I think they don't communicate anymore.

" Haytham wait," I said as he got up from the chair. "She told me to thank you. She didn't forget your kindness even on her deathbed."  At that point, he was already in tears and he did nothing to hide it.

He finally wiped the tears, did one cute and fake grin and wished me a goodnight.

Just as I was walking him to the door, Tamim walked in. He looked as exhausted as ever.

"Hello Aaliya and stranger." He smiled and the dark circles under his eyes looked darker.

Oh shit! Now i have to introduce him to Tamim.

"Haytham, meet Tamim, my husband." I said and I think my heart did a little turning while my brain smirked.
