Phonto

Cost | Free
Use | Add text, shapes, & images
Status | Popular
Alternatives | Picsart

Pros | Easy to use, quick, extra filters
Cons | Bad controls, must save periodically

My favorite text app out there! You can use the built in fonts or download some online. You can style your text with a variety of options from shadow, color, spacing, curving, outlines, etc. The controls are a bit wonky, but what can you do? I also recommend saving every time you think about it because if you accidentally close the app then try to reopen your project, it's not always there.

SNOW

Cost | Free, in app purchases
Use | Face filters
• Status | Popular
Alternatives | Snapchat

Pros | Easy to use, lots of options
Cons | Slow to load

2018 did me so good with discovering this app; it's adorable! Simple K-pop edits are done with this because it fits the pastel aesthetic perfectly. It's also a time waster if you're bored because it has a huge collection of filters to play around with.

Line Camera

Cost | Free
Use | Drawing, stamping/clipart
• Status | Average
Alternatives | Picsart, Adobe Sketch

Pros | Easy to use, lots of options, bonus filters, saves in high quality
Cons | Slow on android

This is my favorite way to add a little sparkle to fan edits! I love adding glitter lines & sparkle stamps to a somewhat boring theme. You can't go wrong with this app in my opinion. It's not necessary, but it's free & adds flare so why not?

Repix

Cost | Free, in app purchases ($1.99)
Use | Effects
Status | Rare
Alternatives | N/A

Pros | Simple, unique
Cons | In app purchases for more effects

As I'm editing this book, I think Repix was deleted from the app store. I'm not sure, but you can check because I adored this app. It had super cool filters I've never seen in other apps so it was totally worth it.

Gifx

Cost | Free, in app purchases
Use | Turn photos into videos with cool overlays, add music
Status | Rare
Alternatives | iMovie

Pros | Fun, adds unique flare to any photo, saves in hq
Cons | Limited overlays, expensive in app purchases

This was something I randomly downloaded when i got my first iTunes card three summers ago (yes, I was 17). I spent $6 on in app purchases & I kind of regret it, but it's proven useful so far. I can add music from my library to anything which is a bonus as well!

Pixlr Express

Cost | Free
Use | Effects, filtering, textures
Status | Average
Alternatives | Afterlight, Picsart

Pros | Many options
Cons | Sometimes saves in LQ

This app was mostly used for filtering until I discovered all the textures & overlays. I love adding galaxy dust or canvas textures to my fan edits. There's plenty more to check out though!

Glitchè

Cost | 99¢
Use | Glitch effects photos
Status | Average
Alternatives | N/A

Pros | Simple
Cons | Limited

I used this app a lot on a blue poetry theme I had on my personal. It gave a dark, cyber feel to everything. I think you can use it on videos as well, but I'm not 100% sure since I don't have it downloaded anymore. I don't know of an alternative, but I'll update if I find one!

Tear Art

Cost | Free
Use | Tears photo layers
Status | Average
Alternatives | Superimpose

Pros | Simple, saves in HQ
Cons | N/A

Great for cool Wattpad covers on romance or horror fanfiction. You upload a photo on top of another photo then this app tears through the layer as you drag your finger across. The quality is low when you're editing, but saves just fine!

TV Scan Line

Cost | Free
Use | Adds flicker effect
Status | Average
Alternatives | Superimpose

Pros | Simple
Cons | N/A

I'd use this to spice up a simple feed theme while I was taking a break from edits. It works really well when used over a neon or pastel filter & it makes your photos stand out when someone is going through their timeline!
