A sight of Ally's figure leaning against the slightly titled bed greeted her as Camila opened the door.
"Mila," said Ally, smiling when Camila walked over to her and gave the older latina a hug. Ally's parents that were still in the room hold a tender smile as they watched the two best friends release from their embrace.
Taking a seat beside her friend's bed, Camila asked. "How are you feeling?"
"I feel sore here and there, but the pain on my head is the worst." Ally said lightly, not wanting Camila to feel worrier than she'd already felt. Camila studied her friend's face, the scratches from the shattered window were visible but she looked more... alive than when she was still unconscious.
Just then Ally's parents decided to leave them alone. "Girls, we're going to the cafeteria. You want anything, Mila?"
"No, thanks Papa H." Camila said, shooking her head with a smile evident on her face.
"Okay, we'll be back later."
After giving their daughter a kiss on her forehead, the two women's gaze followed Ally's parents who was leaving the room. Camila turned her attention back when Ally asked, "So, how's school?"
Camila rolled her eyes playfully, knowing well enough what her friend was trying to do, "Al, it's only been one day and you're asking me that like you've been away for a long time."
"What? Anything could happen in a day, you know." Ally justified.
"True," She agreed.
They haven't talked about the accident yet since Camila walked into the room. Ally's parent didn't tell her anything new about that either while they were on the phone earlier, she assumed the police haven't paid a visit again. She didn't want Ally to stress out, so she might as well take this chance to help her friend take her mind off of it.
"But we both know you just want to prolong the talk by asking that, so I'm just going to ignore it." She chuckled, feeling amused by her friend's nervousness, "So, Will Bracey, huh?" She said wiggling her eyebrows.
"Ugh!" Ally groaned and let out a sigh. "Seriously nothing happen between us. We're just... friends."
"But you like him, don't you?"
"Honestly... I don't know. I like his company," Ally muttered quietly as Camila eyed her carefully. "Yesterday we had a great time. But I'm not so sure I'm ready to be in a relationship again for now, Mila, I..."
Camila nodded in understanding then said, "You'll figure it out, Al. And I'm gonna be right here if you ever need me."
Camila didn't say anything else about the man; about when he came last night and just stared at Ally longingly. She knew for a fact that was not a look you give someone you don't have a feeling for but she wasn't going to mention that to her friend. She knew that Ally still had a feeling for her pathetic excuse of an ex-boyfriend, Edgar.
Right then there's a knock on the door before a pretty brown skinned woman in black jacket and grey v-neck shirt came in view. Camila didn't recognize her. After a moment, she stood by her, and began, showing her badge.
"I'm Detective Normani Hamilton," She began, giving them a warm smile as Camila eyed the detective then back to Ally who was in the same bewildered daze. "I was deployed to this case." She continued as if it answered them enough.
Only then Camila came to realization that something was going on if a detective was in charge of Ally's accident.
"We found the suspected car on the outskirt of city; in a burned state, I might add. No one was found there," The detective stated, not waiting for a word from the two women, she added, "The fire attracted attention of a couple who were passing the road then called 911. When we arrived at the scene, it was already burned. Fortunately we managed to identify the car number and found the owner."
