Chapter Thirteen
Mohatu's Regin

Once the two had arrived, there was no mistaking it. The hyenas had shown the Prideland's King no mercy. They tore into him like he was their last meal.

"This is sick." Ahadi hissed, looking away from the carcass of his king.

Then he walked over to where the pale body laid. It was Kiburi, it had to be. Ahadi stepped away from both of them. He couldn't believe that Mohatu was dead. He couldn't be... but there he was.

"Ahadi, do you need to lie down?" Erevu asked.

"No, just don't let the Queen or Princess Uru see this. Or any of the Pride. They need to remember King Mohatu as he was, not like this." Ahadi paused to look at the bodies again. "Not like this." He whispered.

"Of course, Ahadi." Erevu agreed. "But what should we tell the pride?"

"We don't tell them anything." He sighed, looking down at the ground.

They took their time making their way back to Pride Rock. Ahadi was in no rush to deliver the news to anyone, especially Uru and her mother.

Queen Asali sat, sobbing quietly into her paws. Asali still held onto the small sliver of hope that her mate was okay. That he just had an injured leg and couldn't make it back without help.

Jasiri allowed Sina to nervously snuggle into him. He knew that her father was dead, but he couldn't bring himself to tell her. He contemplated on whether or not to do as Erevu asked him. Besides, hadn't that been his entire intention for coming into the Pridelands? To find a mate? Maybe he should ask Sina to be his mate, it would result in the better for both of them, at least for the time being. Erevu was right, as long as they were in the Pridelands, he was never going to meet anyone better.

While he worried over this, the rest of the Pride held their breath over their King and his advisor.

"Jasiri, do you think they're gone." Sina sobbed.

He was just getting ready to tell her what he'd seen when Erevu and Ahadi walked up Pride Rock with their heads hung low. Sina jumped to her paws and rushed over to Ahadi.

"Ahadi, is it true?" Sina gasped for air.

Ahadi looked away sadly.

"I'm sorry, Sina." He nodded, looking away as bits of his mane hung over his face.

Sina nearly collapsed into Jasiri, and he led her to the den so she could rest and mourn peacefully.

"Athena, where is Uru?" Ahadi asked his mate's friend.

Athena sat idly next to Erevu. "I'm not sure, she left when she got the news. Have you checked with Choyo?" she offered.

"Why would I go over to Choyo? All he's done since Nia left was sulk in that stupid cave? Where was he during all this?" Ahadi erupted angrily.

"I don't know, Ahadi." Athena replied, suddenly passive against the tone Ahadi held.

Erevu moved slightly closer to Athena, maybe afraid Ahadi would lash out in stress and despair. He didn't... Ahadi stayed right where he was before inhaling deeply.

"I'm going to go find Uru." He admitted.

First, he had one important thing to do. Break the news to his Queen. Queen Asali was next to Uzuri, and it dawned on him he'd have to inform Uzuri on her late mate as well.
