"Are you sure about this, Niall?" Liam asks as he stands in line at the airport with me.
"I've never been more sure about anything in my life, Liam. I love her, and I have to get her back." I clutch the blue airline ticket in my hand and shuffle my feet forward while the line continues to advance.
"How are you planning to do it?" He asks, moving with me.
"I haven't thought about that yet, Liam. I guess I just have to explain everything about the lie that the magazine made up."
"Why don't you call Zoe and have her meet you there after you explain everything? I mean, she was just as mad about the picture as you were, especially after that phone call you got the other day." Liam offers.
"That could work, but I definitely need to explain it first. I think bringing Zoe in too early could cause her to balk at forgiving me."
"Niall, I know you think she's just going to forgive you like that," he snaps his fingers, "but she's not like any other girl you've ever dated. She'll need her space to forgive you on her own terms." Liam reasons. That struck me like a brick. I never thought about it that way.
But, it's been a week since this whole thing went down and she hasn't answered a single one of my phone calls. Finally I reach the counter and I shove my ticket in the lady's face, demanding that she check me into the flight.
"Be careful, Niall. Make wise choices and remember, you have one week." Liam pats my shoulder as he comes as far as he can with me before security forced him to leave. I step through the medal detector without problem and grab my things and sprint to my gate.
I pull my phone out once again, and stare at her contact number. I dial it, and press the cool screen to my ear in hopes that she'll pick up after the 500th call.
"Please pick up." I mutter, bouncing my knees in frustration when she doesn't. I turn my phone off and shove it in my bag, not giving it another thought. Still frustrated, I stand up and head to a magazine rack to buy some new reading material and see if any more magazines have made up any more lies about my love life.
I take my collection back to my seat and toss the pile in the chair beside me as I pick up the first one. It's a 17 magazine. I flip through it and nothing pops out at me, so I toss it to the side to actually read through it on the flight. I blindly reach for the next magazine, which just so happens to be one of the magazines I grew up reading in Ireland, KISS. I thumb through it until a certain picture catches my eye of Zoe.
'WHELAN AND LONG TIME BOYFRIEND, TIMMS BREAK UP'
I re-read the line before reading deeper into the story. Timms was another one of my mates growing up just down the street from Zoe and I. They've been together on and off for the last 6 years, but have just recently steadied out.
About halfway down the page it talks about the J-14 article that lied about Zoe and I. I dig my phone back out of my bag and wait for it to boot up before scrolling through my contacts list. I hit the green call button, hoping that this whole ordeal didn't break up another couple.
"Tyler! Hey, man, whatever you think is going on between Zoe and I is all a lie." I start off.
"You're lucky I picked up the phone, Horan. Now say what you have to say and let me get back to my day." Tyler practically spits through the phone.
"Nothing is going on between Zoe and I! That picture was taken last year when I came home for break! You were there!" I cry into the phone, begging one of my best friends to remember.
