Allison Billson:

Age 5:

I was sitting next to a blonde hair, blue eyed boy that I had a total little kid crush on. He was adorable and sweet but not over-powering. He wouldn’t stand for people to make fun of me and never had he ever done it himself. He was caring and considerate, not that I knew that then, but he was also big hearted.

Age 8:

I was sitting next to the same boy I called my best friend, I still had a crush on him, but this time we were sitting on the couch listening to our parents. They announced he was moving, and less than 2 weeks later I sat alone.

Age 17:

I am sitting on my couch similar to how I was 9 years earlier. The only differences were my age, I was alone, and I was different. I turned into the quiet girl with no friends or hope of finding anyone who understands my need to play my X-Box. I was a total nerd with a grade-A geek stuck in the middle. I did math for fun when the power was out…yep, can’t get much nerdier. I had no friends and my parents were mad that I was like this. I have been this way since he moved years ago.

My mom asked, “Are you even listening to us?” I blinked just realizing she was ranting again. I shook my head and she slapped me.

I hissed, “You asked me a question and I told you the truth!” Another slap. My dad pulled her back to his side looking worried. My mom hated me, with a strong passion since I am not her beautiful daughter like she wanted. I am a nobody.

My dad said, “Honey, why don’t you go for a walk while I tell her?” My mom gave him a quick peck on the lips and I glared at her as she walked by. After she slammed the door my father looked at me more sympathetically.

I ignored it, “What, dad?”

He said, “Well, Sonny, your mother and I have become more worried about you since you are a social outcast.” Way to put it lightly, dad. “So we decided to send you away.” What? Is he fucking crazy? I hate my life.

Despite me freaking out inside: I just shrugged, keeping my bored expression on the outside. “Should I care?”

He nodded with a small smile, “Well, you might remember my friend Allan.”

I shook my head, “Who?”

He raised a brow, “Allan and Bethany?”

I asked, “Who?”

He sighed, sagging his shoulders in defeat, “You might remember their kids, Beau, Violet and…they have another one…um…oh yeah,” He snapped his fingers, “Jayden?” Oh my god no way!

I again kept my cool so I could verify, “Who?”

He shook his head, “You are going to see them! Jayden was your best friend and you guys had a major crush on each other before his mom got a job offer and moved? If this isn’t ringing any bells I am taking you to the hospital.” Yeah, my dad was like a little kid that needed to explain things instead of just outright saying them.

I nodded, “Yeah, I vaguely remember them…I think. Why does it matter?”

My dad rolled his eyes, “Just go pack, and leave your X-Box. You are staying with them for the summer and you leave tonight.”

I grumbled but got up anyway and went to pack. I frowned at my practically empty suitcase. My dad said I couldn’t take my X-Box so I grabbed some of my saved up money and decided to buy one when I got there. I packed my games and still had some space so I packed some swim suits and things even though I wouldn’t use them. I probably wouldn’t even leave the house. I was not an outdoorsy kind of person. Don’t get me wrong I love being in nature but I would so much rather have my X-Box. I was done right as my mother walked in looking smug.

She said, “So you are doing what you were told. I am glad you’re leaving.”

I nodded, “I’m glad I’m leaving too Mary, oh, and Congratulations, you finally convinced my dad that I need fucking help.” Slap! I clenched my jaw. She slaps hard but I was used to it.

She said, “Do not raise your voice at me, young lady! And you do not use words like that in my house.”

I shrugged while walking past her, out of my room with my luggage. I stopped at the door and slightly turned back to look at her, “I just fucking did.” Then I proceeded walking until I was at the front door. Ethan looked sad. I gave him a hug. He was my little brother; I always played my X-Box with him.

He said, “I’m going to miss playing X-Box with you.” I shrugged with a smile. He always loved me, both my brothers did.

I said, “I got you something.” I leaned in a whispered, “You can have my X-Box as long as you promise to take care of it.” His eyes widened before he started nodding eagerly. I smiled, “Skyrim is still in there, you can have it too. But you have to call me all the time!” He grinned and hugged me again.

He said, “Thank you! I love you, Ally. You are the best sister ever.” I smiled and bit my lip so I wouldn’t cry. Being a teenage girl meant you want to cry at unnecessary things for no reason so I hate being a girl. This was kind of depressing though because my brothers and I were super close. They actually considered me one of the guys and so did their friends because I practically was. I was going to miss them, all of them. He kissed my cheek before running down the hallway and into my room.

My mom said, “Get in the car!” I rolled my eyes but did anyway. My dad was already waiting but I noticed I was missing something.

I got in the back and asked, “Where’s Jake? Is he not going to say good bye?”

My mom shrugged. My dad sighed, “I think he is still busy finishing up with College stuff. I don’t think he will be able to, Sonny.” I put on my blank mask and shrugged before leaning on the window and watching the city buildings blur by. You got to love the city.

Terrible?
