Chapter 9

Things between Jake and I were great and before I knew it, it was the day before Jake's birthday.

"Hey! It's your birthday tomorrow!" I squealed excitedly as I met Jake at the end of school.

"Yep!" He said chirped happily.

"Are you not excited?" I asked, frowning. Why was I more excited than him?

"I am. But do you know what I'm most excited about?" He asked, snaking his arms round my waist from behind and resting his chin on my shoulder.

"What?" I giggled.

"Spending my birthday with my beautiful girlfriend." He said, kissing my temple.

"You not excited about your party?" I asked, faking hurt, seeing as I had been the one to plan it.

"Yeah but I'm more excited about spending it with you."

"You do realise, you have spent almost every birthday with me?" I asked.

"Yeah, but I've never been able to do this." He said, spinning me round to face him and kissing me passionately.

"So go get changed and get your overnight bag and I'll meet you at mine in half an hour." Jake said as we reached his house.

"Make that an hour." I said, as walked past his house and to mine.

"You really don't have to make an effort Lydia. You always look beautiful to me!" Jake called from his front door. I smiled before racing to my room and getting ready. He always seemed to know the right things to say. He really was too damn sweet.

I showered, being careful not to get my hair wet, before changing into a pair of skinny jeans and a loose fitting cropped top. I applied my usual make-up of mascara and eye-liner before grabbing my overnight bag, which I had packed this morning and made my way down stairs.

"Bye mum! I'm going to Jake's now!" I called from the hallway.

"Are you sure Jake's parents are ok with this?" My mum asked walking into the hallway still holding a wooden spoon.

"What do you mean?" I questioned, confused.

"Well now that you're together, will they be ok with you staying the night?" She explained, her eyebrows pulling into a frown.

"Mum!" I shrieked, embarrassed that she was asking me about this, "Just because we are going to be sleeping in the same bed doesn't mean we will do anything." I said, almost adding onto the end 'but it doesn't mean we won't either.' "I'm sure Jake has already explained that to his parents and we do it every year, we can't stop now. It's tradition." I said trying to sound confident.

What happens if Jake's parents are not fine with this? Would we never be able to sleep over at each other's houses again?

"Anyway, I guess I should be going." I mumbled, frowning. I was suddenly worried about what Jake's parents would say.

"Have a good time hon." My mum said disappearing back into the kitchen, once she had hugged me.

I walked slowly to Jake's house, trying to push the thought of what Jake's parents might say to the back of my mind.

"Hey!" Jake said excitedly as he opened the door.

"Ah someone is a bit more excited now." I said smiling, pecking him on the lips as I walked past him.

"That's only cause you're here" He said with a flirty wink. "What took you so long anyway?"

"Well I don't look like this without any effort." I said gesturing to my face.
