Chapter 19

We walk into the kitchen where both our parents are sitting opposite each other. They have left two chairs at the head of the table which we quickly take. I grip Jake’s hand tightly and pray that this isn’t a sex talk or something.

“We have some great news,” my mum chirps a smile breaking out on her face which is soon mirrored by the smile on my father’s face.

I frown slightly. “Go on,” I encourage her.

“Our house will be ready to move into in a couple of days!” She continues happily, her whole face glowing with excitement.

My whole body freezes. We will be moving out. That means I won’t be living with Jake anymore. I won’t be able to wake up in his arms. We won’t be able to spend hours chatting to each other each night. I gulped as I looked at Jake. His eye caught mine and he squeezed my hand encouragingly as a fake smile slipped onto his face. I copied his smile, “Wow, that’s great!” I said faking enthusiasm.

“Really?” My dad asks, his smile now replaced with a questioning look.

“Um… Yeah?” I frowned again, completely confused now. Didn’t they want me to be happy that we could go live in our own house?

“Oh, well we just expected you to kick up some fuss about not being able to live with Jake anymore." I smiled at how well my parents knew me.

“Nah I’m glad, he kinda stinks!” I smirked, shoving him playfully.

“Let’s see if you think that when you have no one to help you with your English homework.” Jake countered.

“Just because we don’t live in the same house doesn’t mean I can’t come over.” I chuckled.

“Oh so you’ll face the stick just so you can use me?” Jake said, moving his hand to his heart as he faked horror.

“Sorry. You caught me; I'm only going out with you so I can get better grades in English.” I shrugged, completing forgetting that our parents were watching this exchange until Jake’s father cleared his throat.

“When you guys are done flirting…” he smirked at the two of us as our heads snapped back to our parents.

I glanced at Jake and smiled at the red tinge to his cheeks. “Okay, so we thought we’d tell you because you should start packing soon and we’ll need to go shopping for new furniture for your room and clothes.” My mum smiled.

“How about tomorrow after school?” I asked.

“Sounds good,” my mum answered standing up signalling the end of the conversation. The rest of the parents mirrored my mum’s action so Jake and I did the same.

I followed Jake upstairs to his room. Once the door was closed he turned to face me,

“Are you really not going to miss living here?” He asked, his eyebrows pulled together into a frown and his eyes full of fear. I couldn’t help but smile at how adorable he looked.

“Don’t be stupid Jake. Of course I am going to miss living with you. I am going to hate not waking up with you every morning and how we chat till stupidly early in the morning. I hate that the first eyes I see in the morning won’t be yours,” I blurted out as I took a step towards Jake.

“Okay, I was just checking,” he smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement.

“Hey!” I said poking him, “Are you not going to say everything you’ll miss about me?” I faked hurt.
