Opposites Attract

Chapter 14 ★彡

People around you are all going to leave you sooner or later, that's what he's been told at a small age. But Ash pondered.

What if there was an exception?

"Calem, are you free to talk?" He heard a certain honey haired girl say. With his curiosity piqued, Ash pulled himself out of the hoard of fangirls.

"Sorry girls, I'll catch up later," he gave the fangirls his famous grin as he traced after the two.

Ash hid behind the walls to an empty hall and watched as Serena and Calem started talking. He listened as Serena was talking about how Calem liked her. When Serena bowed down and rejected him, Ash let out a sigh of relief.

"... Is it because there's someone you like?" He heard Calem ask her.

The honey haired girl started stuttering some incoherent words. Ash found that amusing since she always had that high-up composure around her. "U-um... Well you see... I... Kind of?"

"Is it Ash?" Calem said curtly. Serena's eyes widened and so did Ash's. He perked his head up to get a better sense of their conversation.

"It looks like it is then." He smiled sadly. "At least tell me this—what do you even like about that narcissist?"

He heard Serena laughed softly at his comment and the raven haired boy shot Calem a dirty look. He wasn't intending to be a narcissist when he was talking about how popular and good looking he was.

He was just stating the facts.

"To be honest, I didn't like him one bit in the beginning. He's arrogant, annoying, carefree, prideful, does whatever he wants, and he doesn't care about how others' feel what-so-ever!" She huffed.

Ash's jaw dropped at how merciless she was being. He didn't even notice half of the things she said he was doing.

"Then why—"

"But then I started to see other sides of him. He's caring, funny, reliable, and he could turn a really serious atmosphere into a lively one with a single sentence! Whenever I'm with him, it makes me feel at ease, I feel comfortable around him than I do around anybody else—I guess that's why I'm attracted to him." Serena blushed slightly.

And at that moment, Ash found himself smiling like an idiot.

In the beginning, Ash had lived his life just messing around with everyone around him, just seeking for entertainment. He didn't find any reasons to try in anything.

But then she came along.

It was true that when he first met Serena, he only teased her with the book misunderstanding because she seemed like a fun person to pass time with.

But then he started to find her interesting because of her peculiar attitude towards the world and her unpretentious personality.

And slowly, he found himself drawn to the honey blonde.

He started experiencing feelings that he never felt before. He missed talking to her when she's faraway, but when she's close by, he felt like teasing her. When other guys talked to her, he felt jealous and wanted her to look at him instead, and when she was in pain, he wanted to help her.
