"Seriously? Out of everywhere he could have chose he choose to meet here." Ash sighed as he kicked a pebble a few feet away from him. It bounced a few times then lay silent.
Serena glanced up at the basketball net that hung ten feet above the ground. The beam was covered with red paint and the sides were slightly rusty. Some of the paint was scrapped off, leaving the metal exposed. The court looked desolated, as if it hadn't been used in a long time.
So this was the court where Ash and Red used to play at.
"This is the most cliché situation someone could ever ask for." The raven haired boy frowned, then turned to her, "I think Alain may be even more of an otaku than you are. He's got some peculiar plots in mind."
Serena rolled her eyes in response.
She was relieved, however, to know that he wasn't feeling pressured for whatever's to come. Alain's unexpected invitation had stirred up a worrisome feeling in her heart.
She had a feeling that this will be a decisive conversation. And as if her mind was being read, Ash grabbed on to her shoulders with his hands and turned her so they were facing each other.
"Hey, if you're worrying about me, don't," He said, "I'm stronger than you think. Plus, now that I thought about it, it was just more of a mental burden that I've been carrying."
He looked at her proudly.
"Plus, when did you always have to worry about the things I do?"
"Did you seriously just ask that with a proud expression?" Serena raised an eyebrow.
"It was suppose to be a rhetorical question."
"Of course it was."
"What's taking him so long? He was the one that initiated the meet," Ash sighed as he kicked another pebble. The small rock launched into the air and was caught by none other than Alain. The navy haired boy signalled a small smile.
"Sorry for being late."
"Took you long enough," Ash replied, his voice abruptly turned dangerously low.
Serena sensed the shift in the atmosphere and eyed him with apprehension. The raven haired boy waved his hands, reassuring her.
"I was just kidding," He said, then looked over to Alain. "So? Why did you call me here?"
"I'll cut straight to the chase," Alain said as he pulled out a white envelope. The raven haired boy sent him a look of suspicion as he received the envelope.
"It's a transfer admittance sheet. You're going to Kalos High."
There was a deadly silence that fell upon the three.
"What?" Ash said.
"What?" Serena repeated after him.
"This school is not having a positive impact in your future, all you do is fool around. You'll be better off in a sports based school. With your talent in basketball, you'll be sure to have a successful career," Alain said in a matter-of-fact way.
