Chapter 28
The next thing I knew I was back in the ridiculously large drawing room but the force of the portal propelled me forward faster than expected and I fell towards the ground with Izzy still in my arms. I turned my body to protect her from the impact but luckily I was caught by a set of strong arms before I could make contact with the stone floor. I looked up at my saviour and saw Maddox looking down at me with concern.
"Are you Ok?" He asked his brows pulled together as he surveyed me and Izzy.
"Yeah I'm fine." I responded as he righted me. I looked around for Nate and couldn't help the laughter that spilled from my lips on seeing him sprawled out on the floor. He sat up and gave me a glare but it had a hint of amusement behind it.
"So not funny Ari...you almost fell over too if it wasn't for Maddox. Why couldn't someone catch me?" Nate said as got up off brushing dust off of his clothes.
"Aww, you poor thing." I said walking over to him and pulling him into a one armed hug. I gave him a peck on the lips and was shocked by the brief spurt of flames. "You've got to be kidding me, I can't even give you a peck without the fireworks, and jeez this soul mate thing goes a little bit too far." Nate just chuckled at this.
"You know you love it." He said looking deeply in my eyes so that I was completely mesmerised.
"Your right." I replied before kissing him for longer this time. The familiar warmth of the kisses and flames combined was exhilarating and in my arms I could hear Izzy gurgling in excitement.
A cough interrupted our little moment. "Sorry to interrupt, but even though I like your little fire show , we have work to do." Blake said in a tone that tried to be serious but had a hint of amusement behind it.
"Okay great and mystical leader. Now oh great and mighty Blake please tell us what it is we need to do." I said sarcasm heavy in my voice.
"The trinity needs to seal away the demons that escaped during battle. The other sorcerers have rounded them up but there are too many for them to contain alone. You 3 however are one of the strongest forces to ever exist so we need to go to the courtyard where everyone is waiting. The rest of you may come as long as you stay out of the way." With that Blake turned and walked out the door not waiting for us to follow but we all did without a seconds thought. Blake walked through the castle as if on auto pilot, seriously I am definitely getting a map, because there is no way that I will ever find my way around this place.
When we got to the courtyard I was relieved to see everyone looking alive and healthy even if they were a bit muddy but my attention was drawn to the centre of the gathered people where a large sphere was floating above the ground and contained inside was nothing but darkness that was contorting and convulsing, looking for a way out of its cage.
I handed Izzy over to my mum giving them both a kiss on the head before I grabbed Nate and Holly's hand. We all stood at equal distances around the sphere. I don't know why but my next actions were almost on auto pilot. Both of my hands that had been balled into my fists at my side opened up and my arms raised themselves out to the sides. From where I was standing I could see Holly and Nate doing it simultaneously and from the looks on their faces they didn't know why they were doing it either.
I felt as if the three of us were connected to one another. I suddenly heard their voices in my head. "Are you ready ?" I asked them. They both nodded so I conjured the elements at the same time Holly used her powers and strong began to batter us. My hair was blowing in my face but when I managed to remove it from eyes I saw that the three of us were now on the perimeter of a large glowing sphere that pulsed many different colours. It almost looked as if the elements had woven together to create prison bars. I watched as Nate's brows furrowed and the larger sphere shrank so thank in was lying directly on top of the smaller sphere which disappeared on contact.
I was startled when a bolt of lightning struck the sphere and the spaces between the bars glowed a brilliant yellow. Awesome electric fence. "We need to bury it Ari!!" Nate screeched in my head. "I don't know how long I can hold it, they're draining me!" OH shit. I concentrated on creating a fissure in the ground which I slowly expanded. I then invoked fire to create a hardened shell to keep the demons trapped within.
"Ready!" I shouted back. He nodded and together the three of us manipulated our elements so that the electrified cage was pushed into the ground. I could hear the wails of the demons over the hum of magic but I ignored it. Together we combined our powers to create a strong barrier to hold the demons prisoner beneath the courtyard before I again called upon my power over earth to close the hole. I never felt soo drained in my life and I could feel myself getting faint. "Holly finish it!!" I screeched. I saw a bolt of bright white in front of my eyes as the lightning struck the edges of the gap together but also leaving a message ingrained into the stone that now covered the buried demons. "Beware any who releases the demons within for they shall bring nothing but destruction to the land."
My arms slowly moved to my sides and the connection between the three of us broke. I felt myself get weak at the knees at the same time Nate and Holly did so that we all landed on the ground in jellied heaps. I couldn't help but laugh, we looked like puppets whose strings had been cut. Dior and Aeron put Nate's arms around their necks and hoisted him from the ground. Riley rushed over to help me up but my legs were too jellified so I simply sagged from his shoulders so he scooped me up in his arms. This is the good thing about the army, makes the boys big and strong.
Blake went over to help Holly up but just as he began to lift her off of the floor he dropped to the ground clutching his head. "No, no, no!!!" He muttered over and over again. "The blood...the death...the despair. Oh no Ari, Nate, Holly...all dead... must not be released...could end everything...all in the hands of one person...but who is she...she must stop it or everyone will die...can't happen...so much death." Blake whispered the last words before slumping unconscious in to Holly's arms. She looked up at me helplessly.
"No need to panic, he's just had a vision." I assured her. "Maddox you look strong, you and Theo take him inside and put him on a bed somewhere, we'll have to wait for him to wake up before we can understand what's going on but whatever it is can't be good. Dad you get Holly. Onward march Riles!!" I shouted the last bit, I suddenly feel less drained because of the adrenaline now pumping through my veins. I know that whatever Blake saw resulted in the death of Nate, Holly and I and there is no way I am going to let that happen.
Theo and Maddox dragged Blake's limp body back into the castle and the rest of the sorcerers followed with equal looks of confusion on their faces. I caught Nate's eye and he nodded in understanding because he'd too seen it before but that one look showed true fear in his eyes, but hey we stopped most of what he predicted last time so we should be fine...right?
