We went in, wearing scrubs given to us by the nurses and facial masks.
"Oh, Caspar...." Zoë said. Caspar was slowly waking and opened his mouth to speak.
"No, don't speak.. The doctors had to work on your trachea. You're going to have a sore throat for a while," Alfie said. Caspar slowly reached to his head. "And a headache.."
The nurse came in to check on Caspar and make sure his body was now properly responding to the multiple surgeries he had the past months. "Has he tried to speak?"
"Yeah, we told him to stay quiet, since it may hurt," Alfie said.
"Good. Caspar? If you can hear me, please squeeze my hand." He squeezed the nurse's hand. She proceeded to make sure his reflexes were strong, and went on to giving him a marker and a board for his means of communication. "I'm going to ask you some questions to make sure everything is alright up there, okay?"
Caspar picked up the marker and managed to remove its lid and hold it properly to write.
"What's your name?" She asked. Caspar wrote his answer and showed me his board.
"Caspar Richard George Lee."
"What's his name?" She pointed to me.
"Joseph Graham Sugg," Caspar wrote.
"Who is your sister?" Caspar wrote his sister's name. "You seem to be okay, mentally. Can you smile for me?" Caspar cracked a smile. "Now frown, and blink twice." She had Caspar do basic math and then sit up in his hospital bed before giving him some water and asking him to try to drink.
"Everything seems to be okay, so I will leave and let you continue visiting," She smiled and left.

Caspar fell asleep after the others left, but Theodora stayed to keep me company.
"I'm glad he's okay... I really didn't want you reading his letter."
"Why?" I said confused.
"It would've meant he was.... gone. I didn't want to accept that, and besides, I'm sure the letter said something about the proposal and how much he loves you," She explained.

The next morning, Caspar was happily eating and could speak but only at a bear minimum. The nurse came back to make sure he was breathing properly while talking, and checked his response time and sensitivity.
"I'm glad you're okay, baby.." I said, rubbing his hand.
"I'm glad, too," He whispered. "When will I be able to get out?"
"Probably not for a while... They need to start you on your initial round of chemotherapy and make sure you're not susceptible to infection before letting you leave," Theodora said. "So you're stuck here for a while. The doctor wants to start your treatment in a couple of days... Once you've completely recovered from the surgery."
/
The following days, Theodora and I were only allowed in during his consultation, but then we were completely allowed back in up until he was starting his treatment.

Dear journal,
Caspar has been going through his chemotherapy for a couple of days now, and he will be allowed back home after completing his first round, on May 2nd.
I'm planning a welcome home party for him and I've been on video chat with him every day we've been apart.
