It is lunch time and I am sitting with my friends. Today I bought fries and an iced tea. I am waiting for the twins to come into the cafeteria.
"Can we talk about how Ethan practically asked Johanna to be his date to the Halloween Dance?" Naomi asks with a big smile.
"Oh yeah tell us about that. I was listening in on your conversation in English class," Logan says placing his fork into his mouth. He is eating spaghetti and meatballs today.
"He did not ask me to be his date. Stop saying that," I say back to them shaking my head. The twins still haven't arrived yet.
"He asked you if you were going. Same thing," Naomi says. She is really enjoying this.
"Just eat your sandwich Naomi," I say back. "I have to use the bathroom I will be back."
"Don't take to long. We are not done our chat here," Naomi says.
I leave the table and walk out of the cafeteria. I listen carefully to see if I can find the twins. I walk to the washrooms which is near the water fountains. Maybe Ethan is taking a drink.
I take a left at the end of the hallway and he is not there. Where could they be? I listen in and I can hear their voices but faintly. I turn around and walk all the way to the other end of the hallway. I see them in the staircase and I take a step back. I listen in to what they are saying.
"What did the letter say?" Grayson asks. I can tell it was his voice.
"Something about how he wanted to save her and how it wasn't safe for her back home," Ethan sounds worried. "The person scratched out 'They will try to come find you.'"
"What is that supposed to mean?" Grayson asks. "It is like whoever wrote that knew that we were going to try to come get her back."
"Whoever wrote that letter is probably the person who took her memories away. They pretended to be Wesley to trick her," Ethan says back to Grayson.
"You have to remember that she doesn't remember us. We cannot scare her or else she will never gain trust for us anymore. She talked to you yesterday at the water fountain and she showed you this letter. She is slowly starting to gain trust again," Grayson tells Ethan. "Plus she felt your pain the other night."
"I hope you're right. I don't like watching her like this."
I stop listening to their conversation. I can't take it anymore. I run to the bathroom at the other end of the hallway. No one is here with me. I clench my hands around the sink and look at my reflection. I take deep breaths.
What's the truth?
