Once the food is devoured and is starting to set in our stomachs, Brendon asks me what I think I would be interested in. "Probably ukulele or guitar, just something easy to start with" I type after thinking for a while. "I think TyJo would be proud if you got a ukulele" Brendon laughs. Well, I do in fact remember a lot of chords from when I was a teenager.
Eventually, after around 20 minutes we leave and head to a music store. "It was the summer of 2001..." I type out smiling lightly. "Oh don't remind me off that embarrassment of a video" Brendon laughs as we walk into the store. "I don't actually remember that night, but the video is all over the Internet. I was too drunk to even remember any of it" He adds before walking over to a stand of guitars. 'What do you think I should start with' I type after glancing over all of the possible options. "Well you do have knowledge of chords, so I guess guitar could be a good idea" He pauses before speaking. I nod slightly and pick up one that looks interesting to me. Even though it was just plain black, it stood out the most.
"That's the same brand as my first guitar" Brendon mentions while I try and remember some chords. I smile and Brendon smiles back.
Brendon sits down, listening to my attempt at playing. "I recognise that tune" He cheers and starts to sing. I look at him confused, I didn't even know what I was playing. It's been that long since I attempted to. "You don't know what you were playing?" He asks now as confused as I was. I shake my head and he laughs again. "It sounded like The Ballad Of Mona Lisa" He explains. Oh, well I guess it actually did.
"You're quite a natural on the guitar" He adds before grabbing the instrument and walking over to the counter. 'I only stopped when I stopped talking' I type out and hand my phone over. "And how long ago was that?" He asks sounding actually interested in the answer. 'About 1 and a half years ago' I reply. "Well, it shouldn't be that hard to start learning again" He smiles before letting me pay.
After doing so we both head out of the shop. "Well you probably want to get that to a safe place" He laughs before awkwardly scratching his neck. This is the first time I've seen Brendon act all shy. 'Do you have somewhere you need to be? If you aren't busy it would be good to have a teacher who actually knows what they're doing' I quickly type out to avoid an uncomfortable silence between us. "I don't think I'd be that good of a teacher, but we can try!" He laughs.
The walk back to my apartment is filled with Brendon telling stories about when he was first learning instruments in high school and how bad he is. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if he did, in fact, give up music back then, it definitely wouldn't be the same without his music.
Once we arrive, I quickly unlock the door and head upstairs to my room, hoping that Brendon would follow. "Wow" He gasps as he walks into my room. I look over to him who is gazing around my walls that are filled with drawings. The majority of them being song lyrics. "I see you like to draw" He states before taking a seat at my desk which is also covered in half finished drawings. "These are amazing" He adds. I smile and unzip the guitar case.
He's still inspecting the drawings when I snap him out of his trance by clicking my fingers in front of his face. "Oh right, let's get to it then!" He says, noticing that he'd zoned out. "Time to turn you into a musical masterpiece!" Brendon adds before moving next to me.
Maybe I could even talk to him about talking again, even singing. Maybe another day, when I'm more comfortable and sure that it really wants I want to do. Hopefully, that's soon.
