Chapter 5: Game Plan

"Somehow, all of us were affected by the meteor and it gave us a specific set of powers. We don't know if Iris has any powers, but we've got to find out" I explained.

"So I have ice coming out of body, Anna can teleport and Jack is freakishly strong, my powers haven't been explained yet, why is there cracks in my body?" Toby asked while looking at all of us. "Want us to test it?" Anna asked Toby. Without saying anything, Toby walked to the opposite side of the back yard..."Let's Do It" He said with a serious look on his face. He seemed determined to find out what powers he had. Anna walked over to him, "Okay, so I don't know how it's supposed to trigger your abilities, I mean, if you do have abilities. You have ice coming through your body, so lets try to figure it out with fire. Quick... Brad, bring a lighter and a gas can" She said.

"What?, Hell no!" Toby screamed at Anna who was walking closer to him. Brad came with the lighter and the gas can and handed it to Anna. She lit it and opened the can. Gas immediately blasted out of the can and spread the fire across the yard. Toby ran away and yelled, "Come on, why? It's not going to work!". I rushed over to Anna and took the gas can and lighter out of her hand. I looked at Toby, "Trust me, let's try again" I said to him. "Think about it dude, you'll be extra hot" Brad smiled and sat back down at the table. "Okay, lets do it, but if I get burnt anywhere near my face, I'll kill you, seriously!" Toby yelled out loud. I didn't hesitate, I immediately let the fire burst out of the lighter as it came near Toby. He put his hands over his face, but he felt no burning on his skin. He felt this cool sensation coming through his body. Toby hesitantly took his hands away from his face..."Whaa..." Toby had no words from what he saw was coming out of his body.

A gigantic amount of water was floating out of his body stopping the fire from touching him. It surrounded him in the shape of a shield going in a certain circle pattern. He floated up into the sky as his eyes turned ocean blue. "I don't know how I should feel about this" Brad screamed, since the sound of Toby's shield sounded like the rough ocean tide. "This is awesome!" Anna looked up. I then stopped the fire from spreading and Toby turned back to normal. The water shield disappeared and he fell onto the ground. Brad ran up to him, "Are you okay, Toby?" He asked. Toby didn't answer for a few seconds..."Yes, I'm fine..." Toby finally replied. All of us were relieved... "Can you carry the table in please? " Brad asked me, just as he was carrying Toby over his shoulder, into the house. "They're so cute" Anna said to me. "Yeah, they are pretty cute!" I smiled, I knew that Toby was finally happy with Brad. I turned around and picked up the heavy table with one hand. Anna walked inside behind me. I put the table down..."Are we going to talk about that kiss?" She asked me. "Not today, maybe another time?" I asked her...I was scared to talk about it since I also like Iris. "Yeah, sure, lets do it another time!" She said. Anna smiled at me, but I didn't smile back...

The was a silence in the living room until Brad came in..."Can I join your little crusade?" He asked politely. "But, what if you get hurt? You don't have any powers?" I replied to him-he seemed desperate. "Please, I mean, since I have nothing else to do?" He begged. I looked at Anna, and she looked at me..."Sure!" I said, immediately regretting what I had said, I could not take it back, he seemed happy and excited to be a part of us. "Make sure your boyfriend protects you" Anna joked...

Later in the afternoon, Toby was lying watching TV while Brad, Anna and I were sitting in the pool..."Hey Tobz, come get in with us!" Brad screamed from outside the house. Toby then came out to the pool and took off his shirt. He looked at his chest and immediately wanted to put his t-shirt back on. "Leave it off, embrace it" I told him confidently. He then threw his t-shirt down and jumped into the pool. He came up from under the water, and his body was completely red, and so was the water. We couldn't believe what we were seeing. "Toby, you're on fire!" Anna screamed while trying to get out of the pool. "Ahhh!" Toby screamed. He was petrified. "But it doesn't hurt...it just feels, tingly" Toby said again.

"Are you sure, you're fine?" Brad asked as he kept his distance from Toby's scorching body. "I'm completely fine, it feels good" Toby yelled out loud. Anna, Brad and I hopped out of the pool and just stood there, we were completely speechless. After a while, Toby climbed out of the pool, still covered in blue and red flames. He stood beside the pool and closed his eyes...it looked like he knew what he was doing. He quickly opened his eyes and they were blue yet again. Toby focused for a while causing the flames to vanish leaving a black stain on the grass. "Oh man, my mom's going to kill me!" Brad screamed from the opposite side of the pool. "Sorry dude, I didn't know that would happen" Toby apologised.

"I need to go check on Iris tonight. I'll make sure nobody sees me" I said out of nowhere. "Are you sure you want to? She's probably still recovering" Anna said. Anna seemed disappointed that I would go and check on Iris now that I share some feelings with her. "I have to know if she made it through the surgery" I exclaimed. Everyone cautiously looked at me. When the sun set, I put on dark clothes to sneak in to hospital. I left Brad's house without saying anything to anyone, took the SUV and drove off. I drove to the hospital for nearly 2 hours. I finally arrived and snuk into the back entrance of the hospital where they delivered all of the medication and tablets.

I crawled under the delivery vehicle and saw a security guard standing at his post. I thought of a way to get pass him before the vehicle drove off. I gave off a loud whistle...the guard walked closer to the vehicle. "Anyone here?" The guard asked as he walked to the opposite side of the vehicle. I slid under the vehicle and ran inside without him seeing me. (Back at the house) "Where's Jack? Don't tell me he snuck off without saying anything!" Toby looked around the house. (Back at the hospital) I worried that I would get caught by the guards. I ran inside, and it felt as if time were slowing down. Something felt completely wrong about this. I ran through the corridors and looked to my left. What I saw was our parents...Anna and Iris's parents sobbing in the corner, Toby's mom asking the doctor countless questions, and my parents who were both crying and hugging each other. I ran even faster, and went into Iris's room, but it was empty. I took off my hoodie and my heart started beating even faster as I looked around. I saw a doctor coming down from the stairs, hoping that he wouldn't see me. "Hi, sorry, do you perhaps know in which room Iris Delaurentis is, I'm a relative?" I asked the doctor. "Come with me please." he said quietly. I started getting even more nervous to see where he was taking me. "In here" he said to me. I was shocked...I didn't know what to believe. "Is this a joke?" I asked the doctor.

"No, I'm sorry to say but Iris didn't make it though the surgery" He said. Those few words were stuck in my head as my eyes grew bigger. I didn't say anything back to him...I ran out of the hospital...I exited the hospital while the guard ran after me. "Hey come back here" He violently screamed. I stretched out my hand and a sonic wave went right through the guard's body causing his body to split in half. I heard a huge crack, as his body broke and windows were shattered. The hospital's alarm sounded...I jumped into the SUV and sped off onto the highway.

What happened next was an even greater mystery....
