~EDITED
It had been more than 4 years of our friendship but Tom and Rubeus never got along with each other. I don't know what could be the reason they couldn't get along. Probably house was not the only reason because Tom accepted me as a best friend even after I was in Gryffindor.
I couldn't chose between one of them because both were my very good friends and it was like choosing between father or mother. Not that I have ever seen my mother though.
I sighed at my thought and went to meet with Rubeusas we had promised.
Thankfully they did not have problem that I got along with both of them.
I didn't have anyone else to whom I could rely on because people hated or feared me because I befriended Tom. I couldn't see what was there to fear or dislike about him but normally most of the people did.
"Hey Rubeus!" I called him and he looked up to me from his favorite pet, Aragog. He was a spider of a stool size which was really huge. I used to fear spiders but Rubeus made me fearless. Aragog actually liked me and never harmed me and of course his owner, Rubeus.
"Hey Aragog," I greeted his pet as well and let him crawl up to my lap.
"Is something wrong with him?" I asked him when I noticed Aragog was moving very slow.
"He is kinda sick. I tried to treat him but I need some potions. But I cannot ask anyone for it. If they will know about Aragog and they will abandon him," Rubeussaid sadly and sighed.
"Should I ask Tom? I know he doesn't like you and you don't either but what if he will agree to help? I think I should ask him, don't you think so?" I gently stroke Aragog's head while it folded his feet comfortably on my lap.
I never thought spider could look so cute.
"Tom!? No way! He will not help if he will know it is related with me. He surely likes you and he would help you but not me,"
"I will ask him, don't worry. I love Aragog just the way you do. I think he will help me, trust me," I assured him and he nodded after thinking for some time but he still looked like he was not really convinced.
"Are you okay with it?" I asked Aragog but he didn't speak anything. "Aragog, please tell me that you are okay with that?" I stroked him again. "Kay, if he will help then," he finally spoke up and I sighed in relief.
"I will just go and ask him right now," I gently pushed Aragog into Rubeus's lap and rushed to find Tom.
"Tom! There you are!"
I finally found him on the clock tower where he used to go sometime.
"Hey Delphi, what's wrong?" He turned to me.
"I wanted your help,"
"Potions?" he knew very well that I was not good with potions. And that somehow made me feel special and I felt happy for that.
But it was no time for that.
"Yes. But not for the assignment," I took a deep breathe, "it is to cure someone. More like a creature,"
"Are you here for some stupid creature of Hagrid?" he said his name with a venom in his voice.
"Hey, Aragog is not stupid, he is cute," I reminded. And just then I remembered, I had never shared about Aragog to him.
"Who's Aragog?" he narrowed his eyes.
"He is an acromantula, a giant spider?" I asked rather than saying.
"A spider? You want to cure a spider?" he sighed.
"Tom, I love Aragog too. And you know right, we can't take help from the school? They will abandon Aragog," I said pleadingly, "please? for me?" that was the sentence I could make him do anything, 'for me'. I felt bad that I used whenever I wanted his help and sometime I even felt like I was being selfish but this was not about something for myself.
He didn't act nice with most of the people in the school but he took me as a real friend and so did I. He finally sighed in defeat.
"Fine,"
He actually agreed to come see Aragog and make potion for him.
"Come to the potion room tonight at the mid night, I would need your help too," he said after we visited Aragog.
I checked my watch and it was almost 12:15 at night. I sneaked out of the Gryffindor common room and tiptoed to the potions room. He was already there waiting for me.
"Let's go," we went in and I followed him. He instructed me and I did as I was told and we made the potion together. Finally when it was over, he grabbed a phial and poured the potion inside.
"This should do," he said and handed the phial to me.
"Thank you so much! I love y- I mean, thanks!" I corrected awkwardly and abruptly embraced him in a hug.
"O-Okay, no problem, we gotta go now," he stuttered.
We successfully made our way out of the potions room and to the respective houses without getting caught.
Rubeus was waiting for me in the common room and as soon as I entered, his face brightened with happiness.
"Did he really do this for Aragog?" He squealed in happiness and I had to calm him down or he could wake everyone up.
"Shh, you have to wait till the morning, alright? Now go and have a sleep, Aragog is going to be fine," I assured him and he happily went up to his dorm and so did I to mine.
I was searching for Tom to thank him once again because the potion healed Aragog from the unknown disease in few minutes. And when I found him, he had a dangerously furious eyes.
I gingerly went towards him and decided to ask, "what's wrong?"
"I came to know about everything," his tone made chill run down to my spine.
"Came to know about what?" I gathered up my courage to speak up to his furious self.
"About my parents,"
