"The Dodsons are on in 3... 2... 1!" the announcer said. My "family" and I started singing and the ones who wanted to play instruments used random objects to replace them. Tiny Darla, my "sister" used a plate to tap against her knee, pretending it was a tambourine. My "dad" used the bed as a piano, and my "mom" used a book as an accordion. I held a brush in my hand and sang while everyone else "played" their instruments. Suddenly, Reggie, my "brother", used his racket as a guitar, and stole the spotlight, like he always did.

Now, the reason why I have quotations on family related names for these people was because they truthfully really weren't my family, except Reggie, who is my cousin. When I was younger, Reggie and I were obsessed with becoming stars and always had our parents video tape us playing and singing without actual instruments. I actually sang, while Reggie always used his racket to fake playing the instrument. I would get the spotlight, but then he'd always steal it from me.

Our parents thought we were adorable. Eventually, they couldn't resist not signing us up for acting careers. When the talent scouts saw our gifts, they were inspired to create a show with us in a family who faced everyday family problems, but would have music numbers to express how the family felt. We always used random objects to represent our instruments. And the name of the show was "The Dodson Family".

You'd think being a child actor and singer would be the best thing that could happen to you. But it wasn't for me. I barely saw my friends anymore, I was homeschooled, and I spent the majority of my time with my fake family.

Plus, people always assumed Reggie and I were the best of friends because we were cousins, on a TV show together, and were the favorites of most fans. But really, ever since this show happened, it's caused a wedge between us. Yes, we annoyed each other before this mess, but we were still good friends back then. Now he couldn't stop showing off and taking any attention I got away from me.
