Riki
We were having dinner, both Reggie and I with our real families for once. Usually we ate Chinese food or pizza in between sets or practice. And now there was a home cooked meatloaf and broccoli on the table, made by my parents' personal chef. "It's been awhile! Thank you for coming to dinner!" my mom said. "It's no problem! Right, Harold?" Aunt Stacy said to Uncle Harold. "Hmm? Oh, definitely," he said half heartedly.
"Carol, I can't be here long. I promised to go bowling with the guys," my dad said. "Okay, sweetie. Maybe you can take Harold along!" mom basically told him, not asked. Harold smiled. My dad kept a straight face and said, "Sure..." "Yay! Then Stacy and I can have some girl time and the boys can play." Reggie was currently playing a video game and feeding broccoli to my dog. I was writing song lyrics. I enjoyed creating the poetry and I always showed the directors of our show, but they said it wasn't the style they were going for. I thought the lyrics were beautiful and perfect. People nowadays don't know what they're witnessing anymore.
"Well, Harold, if you're coming, you have to scarf down your dinner," dad told him. And that is just what he did. Disgusting. "Well, let's go." "Bye, honey!" mom called. They both left without another word. We all kept 'eating' dinner. I savored the broccoli, for it was soo rare to get something actually healthy. Reggie never looked up from his game. "So, how is Reggie and his talents?" mom asked. "Oh he is doing wonderfully! He's currently learning ukulele." "How come you didn't tell me that?!" mom asked as she playfully nudged me. "'Cause I'm never home," I answered, to only receive giggles from both women. "Isn't that precious?" Aunt Stacy said as she picked up her glass of water and took a sip.
I rolled my eyes and tried to focus on writing my lyrics. "That's quite amazing! He needs to do a ukulele piece in the Dudsons," mom said. "He hasn't learned much yet, but when he's mastered it, we'll suggest it to the director." "Great." "What has little Riki been up to?" "Nothing. Hey, Reggie got a new haircut, didn't he?" "Yes, just a couple days ago. It'll help the show, I'm sure." "Yes, with all those little girls and their crushes, I'm also sure."
I finished my dinner, grateful to finally not have fast food. Reggie seemed to feel differently. He gave it all to the dog, and ate some candy from his pocket for dinner. Eventually the maid brought in our parfaits after we all finished. I ignored the ladies, bragging about Reggie. I wrote, "How can I deal with living without you? My soul rips in half. Leaving me to stare at a scarlet sky." I thought, then scribbled, "Without you, I can't get by." I nodded in happiness with my choice.
"Reggie is soo great on the show! Such talent!" mom exclaimed. "Yes, he is a grand child. So how are Riki's vocal lessons?" "I don't know. So how was you and you're husbands vacation?" "Peachy!"
