[Blinking Past Today] (2) Hunter

I stared at him as the clock ticked past. Time should've stopped for him, but it was still moving.

What was this?

What's happening?

I blinked away the tears that tried to leak through my eyes.

My brother... Dead?

I looked down at the lifeless body of the fifteen year old boy that was my brother. The lifeless, bloody shell of a boy named Simon Fitz.

Lifeless.

He was dead.

Gone.

I blinked quickly and tried my best to hide the sadness. We had been home alone. I had no time to even call the paramedics. When I picked up the phone Simon had gone limp. He had given up.

My little brother was dead.

I couldn't except it, the thoughts racing through my head were making me believe he was alive still.

But deep inside I knew he was dead.

I fell to my knees on the hardwood floor, dropping my cell phone in the process. Blood soaked into my light blue pants and my own blood was icy in my veins.

I felt a sob work it's way out of me and I began crying hard. I stayed like that, crying like a three year old who stubbed their toe for hours until the sun had vanished front the sky.

There was a loud knock on the wooden door in the front of my house. I turned my tear soaked face to the hallway leading out. I wiped my face off hastily and looked anywhere but the corpse before me.

I peeked out the window suspiciously and a tear worked it's way out.

I saw men in black suits with gas masks on outside of my house. One of them was very short with a hint of black hair poking out of the mask and helmet combo. The other was very tall and had a gun strapped to his waist. They both had the letters FBI on the front of their uniforms which only meant trouble.

I let out a shaky breath and walked to the door. My hand hovered above the handle cautiously and the rational side of my brain took over. I opened the door halfway, "H-hello." I said in a whisper.

"Hello ma'am. I'm Victor Amman, part of the FBI's new special task branch. This is my partner Connor Marks." The shorter one spoke with a deep voice that struck me as odd. I was far too distraught to care for the introductions, "Are you Miss Hunter Fitz?"

I nodded slowly and used the door to hide the blood on my pants and shoes.

"Good. We need you and your brother Simon Fitz to come with us to-"

"He's dead." I deadpanned. The men both waited for a minute and said nothing.

"I'm very sorry for your loss." Connor said grimly.

"I'm sure you are." I said with no emotion.

"I would like it if you could come with us to prevent your own death. We have a special place for you to stay while we evacuate the state."

"The state?" I ask in the same tone, "Why evacuate the entire state?"

"There is an illness spreading through the air as we speak. We must control the situation before it gets worse." His muffled voice was scary as he also deadpanned.

"Sounds fun." I said as I walked out of my house and shut the door, "I want to leave now."

I couldn't stand being in that house. Not with my brother there and certainly not by myself.
