Chapter 10
“I’m going in for a few checkups on Friday” Kimberley told her family, who were all gathered around our dinner table in our apartment.
“oh…” Diane’s face fell. “any news?”
“no… not yet.” Kimberley admitted.
“aye… I’m sure it’ll all be over with you soon” Sally started. “there must be good news soon. It can’t all be bad!”
“I agree with Sally” her younger sister Amy said, nodding her head.
“I hope so”
“I know so!” her dad, John said, sounding as convincing as he could.
“excuse us, I’ll go load the dishwasher” I got up from me chair and noticed Kimberley’s younger brother Adam, doing the same.
“I’ll help you, Cheryl”
We stood in the kitchen on each side of the dishwater, loading it with plates, glasses ect.
“Cheryl?”
I looked up from the dishwasher to find Adam watching us. I used to crush on him at the start of the band… he was still a very handsome man, but it just didn’t do it for us anymore.
“Yeah, Adam?”
“Do you really love my sister?” the question caught me off guard but I remembered back when Amy told them all about me and Kimberley… he wasn’t too keen about it.
I nodded me head “I do Adam, very much…”
“yeah… I thought so” he nodded too, continuing to load the dishwasher.
“Then why did you ask, Adam?”
“I honestly didn’t think my sister would be gay…” I felt my cheeks redden with anger and I think he noticed.
“no no, Cheryl… don’t get me wrong. I’m… happy for you two. Yes, I admit it took me… a while to get used to. But I’m okay with it… and you both deserve the best” he shrugged.
“right…”
“Look Cheryl… I honestly believed Justin and Kimberley were gonna get married and have kids and all that… when they broke up I thought it was just a little break maybe… I had faith in them. I Never saw… this.. coming”
“no one did I guess…” I thought about what I had just said then shook me head. “well actually… almost everyone did… Chim and all that…”
he laughed a little and then smiled at us “as long as you make her happy… I’ll be okay with it… but if you hurt her-“
“are you seriously giving us the speech right now, Adam?” I laughed
“well… I am her brother… so yeah, I am.”
“trust me. I’ll never hurt her”
******
“Adam gave us the speech today”
“he did not!?”
we were cuddled up on the couch, Kimberley laying behind us with me back pressed up against her chest.
“he did” I giggled. “was quite cute actually…”
“how embarrassing…”
I turned around so I faced her on the couch. I kissed her nose and she smiled gently at us.
