traveling / arrival:
Izzy's POV:I tried to drown out my sisters silent sobs, hoping she was okay. I didn't know what was wrong and I couldn't fix it. I leaned over the seat and looked at my little sister.
"Shay? Are you okay?" I try to ask. She just shakes her head no and starts to cry again. I sigh and slide back into my seat and look at my sleeping friend. Despite the fact that I may get punched, I shake her until she wakes up."Della. Della." She groans, obviously mad that I woke her up.
"I was having a good dream.. What do you want?" I sigh and look back behind me.
"Shay's not doing well. What do you think could have happened?" Della shrugs.
"Maybe it's something she ate? Food poisoning?" I shake my head.
"All she had was my doughnut. So if that was the cause then I'd be sick to, wouldn't I?" Della pushes herself up to look at me.
"Maybe it was some bug." I think back, Shay did freak out about some spider laying on her this morning.
"Might be." I look at my sister, praying that a spider bite wasn't the case.
About half an hour we were forced to pull over because Shay had to vomit. I stood by her holding her hair up as she spilled her guts on the side of the road. Della stepped out of the van and stood by us, rubbing Shay's back, soothing her. Shay continues to spew and eventually it lands on Della's running shoes.
"Sorry..." Shay mumbles, wiping her face. Della shrugs and calls out to her father.
"Dad! Do we have any type of medicine?" Eddie eventually walks out with a bag of medicine. I look through as Della takes over for me.
Advil, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, after a couple of minutes of looking I finally find somethings Shay needs. I grab the Ibuprofen, some throat soothing medicine and a bottle of cherry pepto bismol. After reading the instructions I walk back over to Shay.
"Shay-Shay.. What hurts most?" Shay looks up at me.
"Um.. Stomach and throat." I nod and take the cap off of the pepto bismol, pouring some into it.
"Drink this and try your best not to throw up for at least ten minutes." Shay grabs the cap and downs the medicine as if her life depended on it. I take out a lozenge and hand it to her. Shay puts it in her mouth and follows Della, Eddie and I back onto the van.
I hear Shay start to make noises not to long after we stopped.
"Izzy." She whimpers, "I think I'm going to throw up again." I turn around and grab Shay's ice-cold hands. I quickly start to warm them up."Just try not to throw up. We're about to stop and eat. Maggie can take you into the bathroom and I'll order your food for you." Shay nods and curls up into a ball, laying her heads on her knees.
We finally get to a Steak and Shake and we all pile out of the van. Maggie and Shay coming out last. As soon as Shay sets foot on the ground she starts vomiting once again. I rush over to her as the pink, chunky liquid pours out of her. Della calls out to me, telling me she's going to order for us. But honestly, I think she doesn't want to get puked on again. I nod and continue to rub Shay's back.
"You can go in. I'll help her." Maggie tells me. I look at Shay's hunched over figure before walking into the Steak and Shake building.
I find Della sitting at a table.
"I got you a water and a burger." I nod and look around the place, taking in the decorations."What'd you get?" Paul asks, sitting by us.
"Burger and a Dr. Pepper." Della tells him as Eugena sits next to her.
"Water and a burger." Paul nods. I look around, not knowing what to do. Paul starts laughing as he plays with the paper on his straw."What're you doing?" I ask as he puts the straw up to his mouth and shoots the paper off, hitting a tall red haired boy in the face. Paul erupts in laughter as the teenage boy gives him a death glare.
"Paul!" Eugena scolds, glaring at him.
"Oh c'mon! That was funny!" I roll my eyes as one of the workers sets our food down on the table.
After I'm half way finished with my meal I hear the jangle of the door. I watch as Maggie and Shay finally walk in.
"Paul, can you move please." Paul groans and slides out of his seat. I scoot out and walk over to Maggie.
"Hey. Thanks for helping Shay out. I appreciate it." Maggie nods.
"No problem. Shaylee's like a mini me. I like her." I look at my little sister who has already taken a seat in one of the booths.
"Well, anyways, thank you." Maggie nods.
"You're welcome." I walk back to my table.
"Paul." he groans again and slides out. I climb back in and sit down.
"What was that about?" Della asks.
"I wanted to thank Maggie for helping Shay out." She nods, scrunching up her nose; probably remembering the vomit on her shoes.
After twenty plus minutes we have all finished our meals and we're getting back on the van. I wait for Shay to get on and I climb on last. I look out the window to see the teenage boy that Paul shot a straw wrapper at earlier. As we were driving away he continued to glare us down. I shrugged it off after I noticed Shay seemed to be feeling better.
After another couple of hours we finally made it to our hiking grounds. I checked my phone to see if we had signal, we didn't. I sighed, putting my phone back in my pocket. We all got off the van, happy that we were finally getting off.
"Okay guys, come here." Eddie tells us, we all gather around and listen. "Alright, so Shay, how are you feeling?" Shay nods and smiles.
"Better." Eddie nods.
"Good. So because Shaylee is feeling better we are going to hike up that trail." Eddie informs us, our eyes travel up to see a long, curvy trail.
"Cough, cough. Puke, puke. Sick." Shay announces, being her sarcastic self.
"Nice try, Shaylee. You're hiking or staying here." Shay groans and we all laugh at her dismay.
We start making our way up the trail, it's a long and tedious journey but it's worth it. At least so far it is.
"Ugh. My legs hurt." Mahalia groans."Dad, I have no more water." Wesley announces.
"I'm hungry." Cameron says.
"I'm tired." Vena tells us.
Once we have finally made our way up its five o' clock.
"Right then. Who brought the tents?" Ralph asks us as Michal hands them to him. Ralph mumbles a quiet 'thanks' before Eddie starts to speak again.
"Okay, so let's set up. We have four tents." I start looking around, not paying much attention at all, "I have the list right here of the people who will be in a tents together. All the tents are marked as following: first tent members: Shaylee, Della, Isabella, Maggie, and Eugena." I look at Della as she beams.
"Second tent members are: Vena, Mahalia, Veronica, and Nelia. Third has: Ralph, Michal, Nolan, and Cameron. In the fourth tent there will be: Wesley, Paul, Justin, and myself." Everyone looks around for their assigned partners as Eddie puts his list back in his pocket.
"So, start setting yourselves up."
