Izzy's pov:
Day 3I grab the note from Cameron's hands, allowing myself to read over what she's written.
The trees, they made me do it.
I turn the paper over in my hands, hoping to find something that would explain her actions to us. Luckily for me, there's words written on the other side.
The trees will come after all y'all next. Trust me, they've said so.
I read over it again, growing angrier and angrier each time. I crumple the piece of paper and finally look up at Mini Bites and Cameron. They have confusion plastered across their faces.
"Did I miss somethin' it said?" Cameron asks, trying to take the ball of paper from me. I jerk my hand away from him, I don't know why I don't want him to read it.
"No, well yeah. But it wasn't anything. Just her being crazy." I put the note in my back pocket, preventing him from taking it from me. "speaking of crazy.. What are we going to do with her? We promised to find the others when she died... And well.."
"We can just leave her." Cameron suggests, "I mean, there's no use in-"
"But that's not right, C-Man.." Nelia cuts him off just so she can scold him for his idea.
"But why can't we? She's dead isn't she? She's not gonna come back to life. We can't do anyhtin' 'bout her." Cameron explains, "I know it's hard to do, but it's the only idea we have." Nelia glances at Mahalia's body, frowning.
"True.." She sighs, "I still don't think it's right though."
"I don't think any of us do, Mini Bites." I mumble, glancing over at Mahalia then back at Nelia. "Mahalia was our friend, but Cameron's right.. We can't do anything about her.. Not yet at least." Nelia sighs, hanging her head.
"Yeah.. Okay.." She takes a deep breath before walking off towards the tent, leaving to go get her stuff. Cameron and I exchange a glance, Mahalia was closest to us. We all lived on the same street ever since seventh grade.
"She's in a better place, y'know." Cameron tells me, frowning. I nod, glancing over at Mahalia's body again. I try to remember happier times, but they don't come to me.
"Yeah.. I know.." I look down at my shoes, just now realizing they were once hers. "They all are.."
Mini Bites appears in the next couple minutes carrying all of our backpacks and attempting to hold three bottles of water.
"Can someone help me?" She complains until I come over to relieve her of the bottles of water and my backpack. She throws Cameron his duffel and I hand him a water.
"So, which way are we going?" She ask, still angry over our decision to leave.
"Dunno." Cameron shrugs, unscrewing his water bottle and pointing off in the distance. "I think that's where they went. So that way, I guess."
I look over at the woods, trying to see past the opening. I nod quickly.
"Sounds good." I turn and look back over at Cameron who has already drank half of his water. "You might wanna save some, there's no telling how long it'll take to find everyone." He just rolls his eyes and puts the cap back on. He puts his water in his bag before he starts arguing back at me.
"It won't be that long. I mean how far could they've gotten? A mile, two? It was dark they wouldn't want-" Cameron is cut off by someone's screams. We all look off in the direction from where it came, bolting towards it; hoping that we can help in some way. Hoping that whoever it was, that they'd still be alive when we got there.
We run as fast as we can, weaving our way around trees and other obstacles. Who ever it is continues screaming, calling out for help. I start to fall behind everyone else as they rush forward.
Suddenly they both stop, causing me to bump into them both. They're frozen, and once I see who is laying there gushing out blood. So am I.
