The dead awakening

Chapter10

We start out again to find whatever it is that will get us out of here. The howlers are getting worse each day we are out here and I'm just waiting for them to attack. We walk about a quarter of a mile north before we stumble upon a metal door sticking out of the ground. I dust away the dirt and sand before I put my hand around the cold metal handle. I pull with all my strength but the door didn't open but a crack. I stare at John looking for help in his eyes and before I knew it everyone was pulling until the door slammed to the ground making a big," thud". I stare down into this dark hole intimidated by its emptiness. I don't go first though, John dose. It didn't surprise me at all because he has always been more of a leader.

We get to the bottom of the ladder splashing on the dark green puddle at the end. John takes out a flashlight and turns it on. He scouts the area around us before we push forward. This place is so dark, so cold, the environment of it gives me the creeps. John puts his arm out in front of me, stopping me from moving forward. I look around but don't see anything, so I listen and for the faintest time I think I hear footsteps before they slowly walk away. I start to back away from John when my foot splashes in a puddle. I look up to find John shining the flash light behind me. I slowly turn around and before me I say the same creatures that give me nightmares now, just walking towards us. I run to John as fast as I could and then we all turn around and run down the cold metal halls. With each step I can feel my heart race and the echo of my feet in my ears as They hit the ground. I run through random halls hoping it will lead me closer. All I hear is my heart beating and my heavy breathing. A pain ignites in my chest and I have to pause before I start running again. I turn around to see the howlers are gone and I am all alone with John. We look at each other and shrug not know really what to do next but to walk down the scary hallway.

We have been walking for miles and haven't seen or heard from the others. "Silence" that's all there is in this place, the only thing breaking through it is the sharpness of our breaths and thoughts. John has been quiet this whole time which has given me time to think about my latest dream. It scares me because John would never be that stupid, right? I look over at him and smile. He finally breaks me from my thoughts and back to reality, " So do you think we will find a way out or do you think this is just some wild goose chase"? I smile at his silly choice of words, of course we will and if we can't physically make it that I guess we will have to spiritually make it, I pushed through my teeth with a little nervous chuckle. " Ha you know Kathy you are not that bad, you are pretty weird but that's good because it suits you". He managed to lock his eyes with mine and I turn away blushing. We hear more noise behind us so we run Ito the closest room and shut the door tight. John turns on a switch that releases light everywhere and again with the white everything. But the room is different from the rest because right dead center in it is the portal from my dreams glowing dark but almost inviting. We walk around it like savage animals inspecting their prey before we touch it. The dark grey metal is cold on my fingertips and it sends a shiver down my back. I turn around to see the scientist looking at me and then at John amazed and before I can say anything John jumps through. I cry out no but he dose not hear me and he is gone. I run to the portal but something is pulling me back. I realize the scientist is restraining me and saying, we don't know what's out there or even if it works do you want to die? I look him bluntly in the eye, I should rightfully be so why should you stop me. I go back to the portal and take a deep breath but before I do I hear the doors open and  two men in black suits barge in running towards me, the government I thought and before I knew it I was jumping into the portal. Leaving the rest behind for now.

Okay I'm going to try to piece this story together some more so it isn't such awful blah chapters okay guys.
