"I forgive you pj, I understand. We were all a mess." Obviously that was not the answer pj had been expecting because his eyes lit up. "Really? After all I put you through? It's thag simple?"  I nodded. "We're not children anymore, and we have a bigger problem at hand here." He nodded remembering the reason I was actually here.
"Phil. Why is my sons face bloody and bruised?" Pj asked, you could see the fear in his eyes as he braced himself for my answer. I explained to him how I found Michael cornered in the hallway, the insults they were calling him, me cleaning his bruises and the other scars I had seen while doing it. I didn't mention about my hinting suspicions about the boys sexuality. that was Michaels job to tell, not mine
Pj hadn't made a single sound since he started and as I finished, tears were starting to well up.
"My son. My poor poor son. Oh my god. I'm so sorry. I wasn't there. That's my job." He started breathing deeply and pacing the room.
"Pj. Pj." I put my hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm the fretting man.
"Phil. Thank you. If it wasn't for you who would have stopped them. He could have been hurt even worse. We're lucky it was only this bad. What can we do to repay you?" Pj asks.
I shake my head. There's only one thing I want.
"Love him. Love him like there's no tomorrow, accept him. Cherish him. No matter what happens, always treat him as your son." I say and pj a smile forms on his lips.
"Yes. Yes oh hell yes Phil I promise you I will. He is and always will be my child. No matter what."
Something told me that he really truly meant what he was saying. I smiled back at him.
"You really have changed pj. Your better now, if you don't mind me asking. I mean... I was just curious." He gestured for me to continue.
I took a deep breath before going on.
"I'm just curious, but ummm... Why? All those years ago you were so bent on hating me. You made my life a living hell."
He bit his lip, I noticed the strong resemble nice between him and his son.
"I was going through a lot. My dad left me when I was a kid and I never really got over it, the year we started high school my sis- brother came out to me as trans. My mom lost it and disowned him and I thought it was my fault for some reason. I needed some way to get it all out and you were there. I'm so so sorry Phil."
He looked down at the Carpet but I only chuckled.
"Oh okay. That makes sense. It's all good peej. Really. Now, let's go find everyone else.
During our little talk, Michael had managed to sneak into the kitchen with Dan and his mom, where they were all sitting around the kitchen table. Dan and Sophie, pjs wife were talking while Michael was entertaining dil.
"Hey bear, we finished up." I walked over next to Dan.
"Y'all certainly took a while." Sophie laughed. She was a short girl compared to us, only about 5'8 with the same short brown curls as Michael.
"Yeah, sorry about that." Pj chuckled awkwardly making the table burst into laughter.
Dil looked up at the noise and realized his papa was back. He immediately jumped up and walked clumsily over to him to be picked up. "Papa! Michael played with me! It was fun! Where you?" The little boy spoke in broken English, only making me laugh as I kissed his forehead. "Sorry little lion. Papa was busy." Dil laughed at his nickname before curling up against phils chest. The poor kid was tired.
"He's such a sweet heart." Sophie commented. Dan smiled and nodded. "I know, hes got us wrapped around his fingers."
The two started talking about their kids and the funny things that had happened when a lightbulb went off in phils head.
"Hey! Michaels really good with dil, and we were looking for a baby sitter for this weekend. Maybe you'd want to watch him for while on Saturday? I'd pay you."
Phil offered. Michaels eyes lit up.
"Really? I'd love to!"
