"There's more, we haven't gotten the chance to explain yet... So much more," Gaia whispered not taking her eyes off the man. He looked them over without a second glance, before continuing his stare on me. Something was off about him all of a sudden, and I didn't know what.
"You have a couple of choices, Misha, but come with me... So I can explain some things to you that I know Quinn wont," he practically begged me. A cold feeling settled in my stomach as I glanced at my friends, they looked concerned. Taking a deep breath I looked at the ground, in consideration, it wouldn't hurt to get some more information. If only he wasn't acting so strange, I didn't know if he was on something but he kept looking at my shoulder like it made him nervous.
Slowly I walked forward and put my hand on Gaia's shoulder, she looked up quickly, surprised. I nodded slightly before walking towards him, and stopping just a foot where he stood. "Are you okay, I don't mind going to talk but you look ill," I said concerned. The mayor chuckled lightly but stopped short before motioning me to follow like he was in a hurry. "I'll be back guys, go ahead and practice I'll let you know when I'm coming back."
The man led me into a car, and once he got in he took off. After a few minutes of silence, I wondered if he was going to just ignore me. Then he opened his mouth, and as I glanced up at him his expression caught me off guard. Gabriel looked incredibly relieved, glancing at me he smiled "I'm sorry for all that, your friend was making me nervous. I didn't want to act like a fool when I'm trying to talk to you," he explained, I arched my eyebrow at him. "Since we are introducing what we are, let me explain better I am a Coyote shifter. Iridessa is a rare breed of Unimer, think of them as unicorn and mermaid," I tried to imagine that but I wasn't sure what to imagine. They didn't get the chance to tell me what they were. "Coyotes were a real problem for horses, but as karma would have it Unimer's are very headstrong and can easily defend themselves, the horn is really sharp... Their also magical like Druid's, so almost as payback any of our kind has a natural fear in us of them. The stronger the Unimer the worse the fear."
I found it fascinating and a little ironic the information he was revealing to me. At first I didn't reply, I pursed my lips as I considered this strange man. "Huh," was all I could come up with and I sounded dumb even to myself. Clearing my throat I got to the task on hand, "So what did you need to tell me? You said you had more information?"
As we drove we came to the other side of the city, where a gothic styled building stood. Along every roof gargoyle statues were placed in every corner of the building. Chills went down my spine at the sight, despite the sun being out it was quite creepy. We stopped in front of it, and Gabriel got out motioning me to follow. It was quiet inside with no one to be seen, we walked up a staircase and stared in awe at all the stained glass. I didn't speak a word afraid of breaking the silence. At the top you could see out across the entire city, it was beautiful in a dark way.
Staring out the windows I waited for him to start, but was glad he showed me something new. "A long time ago the world was ravaged by a war, we knew it was between us and the humans. The humans just thought it was another world war, they tore about everything we cared about," Gabriel stated boldly. I furrowed my eyebrows, remembering learning about the war in school. It started out as the world leaders arguing, but they never said what, that was wiped from the internet system. Millions died, but in the end the planet became more united than it had ever been so the story goes.
Glancing at my expression, his went understanding. "Hope was there, in fact some humans had been found that had gifts. If they bonded to a certain species they could use their abilities. These people asked us to let them help as we fought back... Once bonded they didn't have a second thought about helping our side, the people they cared about," he paused deep in thought.
