As Alice slowly lowered herself, she could feel the nervousness arise in her chest.
What if he seems me?
What if I fall from here?
Will I be able to find that passageway?
She was shivering and holding her breath but when she noticed that there is no window at that side except the one that she had lowered herself from, she finally took in a deep breath and felt slightly less tense.
When her feet finally touched the ground, she squatted down and started crawling towards the shack. She could feel the adrenalin being pumped into her bloodstream and the closer she got, the more hope started to rise in her chest.
There it was.
The shack.
Just a couple more steps towards it and she will be sure to find the passageway that will lead her to Billy, and that dead man was going to save her. The cost wasn't high at all. Another's body? Well, at least she won't be dead and she'll be able to run away from this lunatic.
Her hand went up to reach the doorknob, when suddenly...
"Going somewhere?", it was the old man's voice. Alice could feel the blood freezing in her veins and she let out a cry as she turned around. He was right there, a few inches away from her face. She let out a cry and the man laughed.
"Don't you think I knew you would try something as stupid as this? Trying to get to the shack and maybe go visit somebody? I've been silenced once that way. But now... Now it's just not happening. Understood?"
His hand flew up in the air and he smacked Alice's face as hard as he could. She could feel her cheek stinging and getting red, but that's not where the man stopped. He hit her in the knees from behind and she fell to the ground, feeling the wet grass on her burning cheek. She stayed like that for a couple of seconds and then turned around.
The only thing she could make out in the darkness of the night lit only by a ray of moonlight was a big, shiny knife in Frank's hands. She felt her heart sink and her throat tighten and couldn't even let out a single cry.
"No! Please", Alice managed to whisper as the man's hand started to lower.
"The passageway is in the right corner. Open the little door, close it immediately", it was Patrick, he was whispering something to her. Frank's hand was only an inch away from her heart now and a malicious smile spread across his face. As Alice felt the knife slowly start to stab her and get deeper and deeper, she wanted to die in that second.
She knew he was going to torture her.
She knew this was the end. A tear slowly started to make it's way down her cheek.
As the knife was making small circles, digging in deeper, suddenly, somebodies hand viciously pulled Frank's and pulled it off of Alice, and a voice screamed:
"RUN! NOW!", it was Patrick, but this time, his head was on and he was even stronger than she could have imagined him to be. Frank started yelling, going crazy, kicking Patrick but nothing worked. Patrick was just like a peace of gum stuck to hair.
Alice lay there in shock for a couple of seconds and when she tried to get up she felt excruciating pain expand from her wound towards the rest of her body. Blood was pouring out but she pressed on it as hard as she could and ran towards the shack. When she got in, it was there. Right there.
The little door to the passageway. Nothing in front of them... Somebody must have cleaned that for her.
Patrick, she thought to herself and smiled.
As she opened it, she remembered that she should hide it somehow, so it wouldn't be as visible as it is now. She put a couple of bags in front and started getting in as she partly listened to Frank's frustrated screams.
Boy, was Patrick strong.
She pushed herself down through the door and suddenly started falling...
