-Chapter 6: Timeline-
Eventually, I woke, and a glance at my watch told me that I had slept through what was left of the evening as well as the night. I half remembered grabbing the watch before following Faelius to the room, probably out of habit. The watch followed me everywhere.
I had been in such a deep sleep, that my usual alarm at 5.40 am (in case the lights didnt wake me) hadn't managed to get me up. Instead, I had slept in. It was already half-past nine.
I also realised that Faelius was standing by the bed staring at the watch as if it was going to explode or something. Of course, he noted that I was awake, and asked why the watch made noises before the sun came up.
I laughed. "It was an alarm."
Faelius stared. "Alarm? What happened? Are you in danger?"
I shook my head. "Not that sort of alarm. It's supposed to wake me up. That's more or less my normal wake up timing."
"That's very early to be waking up." Remarked Faelius, who was now peering at the watch.
I shrugged. "If the army tells you to get up at that time, you must get up. No choice. We just follow orders."
Faelius nodded. "I see. So, you have no choice, then?"
"None. Can you stop staring at my arm? I can show you the functions of the watch if you want... " I replied flatly, while trying to get out of bed.
Faelius dropped the arm slightly sheepishly, while I rolled off the bed. I spent a few minutes showing him what the watch did, as well as explaining how humans used it to quantify time. He found it interesting, though he did say that they had their own ways, which turned out to be similar anyway.
I couldn't help but wonder how things were like in their day... They had been wild and free so to speak, having the world mostly to themselves, while human civilisation was still taking baby steps... There were no governments, no countries, and no armies, only the occasional challenge from a few disgruntled people.
Faelius seemed to notice, and asked, "What is it that has you lost in thought?"
I told him, and he snorted, offering to tell me more.
I took his offer, and he teleported in two chairs, one being a proper human one for me, and invited me to sit, saying that it would take a while.
I sat, and once we were both comfortable, he asked me to open my mind to him. I raised an eyebrow. "For?"
Faelius chuckled. "Some things are better shown than told."
I was sure that it would be an interesting experience indeed, but I had my doubts about it. On one hand, the request was innocent enough, but yet, on the other hand, it would also open up all my knowledge and such to him, including some information about the military that was classified due to the nature of my job.
Faelius seemed to sense my thoughts and shook his head. "No, I will not invade your thoughts. All I need is your consent to share some of my memories with you. It will be a one way process. Do not worry."
I somehow felt myself relent, and the dragon pressed on, giving his word that he would do nothing more.
Eventually, I caved in and gave my consent. Faelius seemed to want to share quite badly, and I didn't want to baulk. Perhaps he thought that it would help me understand why the dragons acted the way that they did...
Besides, who was I to say no to a dragon?
