"A part of me already knew what I was getting myself into, yet I still pushed forth and expected the impossible. But like always, it ends up being just another disappointment. I should have learned by now."

There were two bulky men standing in front of a small room, but it wasn't just any room. It was an interrogation room. Inside was a widely-known criminal/gang leader known as Jase Banner. No one knew how a 19 year old like him could possibly get involved in criminal stuff and be a leader in it all at such a young age, except him of course. Jase Banner popped a cigarette into his mouth, lighting it with his lighter. He took a long drag, then parted it from his lips to blow out a huge cloud of grey smoke.

"Now, tell me Rich," Jase started, taking another long drag from the cancer stick he held between his middle finger and index finger. "Why would you even attempt to steal some of my deals and my guns? Don't you know that I have this place filled with security and dangerous people?"

The man he was interrogating looked up with a smug look, then chuckled with no humor. "You aren't going to make me talk, Banner. I'm a whole lot older than you, and I've been in the business long before you were even thought about."

Jase chuckled as well, an arrogant smirk forming. "It's funny you say that, Richie. Cause I'm pretty sure it took you a while to become a known criminal, when it only took me a few months. I think I know what I'm doing."

Richard's expression changed into an angry glare. If anything, he had a murderous glint in his eyes. "I don't think you do, Jase. In just two years, you got so caught up in this gang and criminal shit, that you think this is all some game. Well, news flash from life itself, this is no game. It's real life that you have to take pre-caution in."

Jase rolled his eyes at the angry statement, smushing the cigarette in the ashtray. "Richie, if anything, I would say you're jealous and uptight. You should really take a chill pill, and maybe then you wouldn't be so moody."

"Stop changing the subject, Jase," Richard growled. "You're not good at interrogating someone, and you should really get your head out of your ass. It's not an asshat."

"How's that daughter of yours?" Jase continued to ignore Richard's angry comments. It was entertaining to see him getting angrier. "Paige was really good if you know what I mean. Hot too."

"What about that girl that used to be around you all the time? What was her name? Jennifer? Yeah, she was really nice. Why didn't you stick with her?"

Jase's jaw clenched tight, gripping the table with his strong hands. Jennifer. Just her name made him so tense, it was unbelievable. The veins in his arms started popping out as his grip on the table got tighter. "Don't even mention her around here. You'll get shot if you do."

"Ooh, did I hit a nerve, Jase?" Richard teased, smirking. He finally found Jase's weakness. "I've heard from lots of guys that she's doing a whole lot better now that you're out of her life."

Somehow, Jase stayed silent for a moment. It irked his chain when someone brought Jennifer up. It was like a punch to the face if you mentioned her around him. "Shut the hell up. Jen was never the type to get back on her feet so quickly if something happened. It takes time."

"Why did you break up with her to begin with?" He questioned, the same smirk on his face.

"I broke up with her because she was pregnant," Jase muttered, his smirk completely disappearing. "We were 17 years old, and I was too young to deal with a kid."

"Something tells me that's not all to the story. You're the one that got her pregnant, and now she's probably raising that kid the best she can as a single mom. You were raised by your mom alone weren't you? I'm sure your mother wouldn't appreciate you getting a girl as sweet as Jennifer pregnant and leaving her."

"Jennifer was just another girl!" Jase retorted quickly, glaring daggers at Richard. If looks could kill, Richard would already be six feet under. "I broke up with her because I didn't want the kid and I didn't care. I've gotten lots of girls pregnant and I've left them all. She's not an exception."

"Then why do you get so worked up when someone mentions her?" Richard questioned, tilting his neck to the side. All you could hear in the quiet, tense room was the sound of him popping his neck.

The only mature thing that Jase could do was ignore the annoying man. It was probably the best option aside from shooting him. Jase knew exactly not to do that. He stood up straight, and then walked out of the interrogation room. Carson looked at him from the table where he was playing cards at, curious to why Jase walked out angrily. "Jase, you alright man?"

"No," He simply answered, opening the front door of the warehouse. He walked out, slamming the door loudly behind him.

"Mommy! Wook what I dwew!" Little Garrett exclaimed, running into the living room.

Jennifer looked over towards her son, giving him a small smile when he handed her his creation. It was white construction paper that had tons of different colors scribbled all over it that formed into each other. Her smile widened. "It's beautiful!"

"Thank you, Mommy," He grinned. "I made it just fow you."

Jennifer chuckled, hugging Garrett close to her chest. "Thank you, sweetie. I love it!"

Garrett hugged back, giving his mother a slobbery, wet kiss. If you haven't put the pieces together yet, Garrett is a total momma's boy, and Jennifer was happy about that. If her son didn't love her like he did, she wouldn't know what to do.

"Guess who's home!" A deep familiar voice shouted from the foyer. Carson. The familiar black-haired boy entered the living room, a huge grin on his face. He walked over to Jennifer and Garrett, placing a kiss on both of their heads. "Hey sis. Hey little dude."

"Hey Uncwle Cawson!" Garrett exclaimed, wrapping his tiny arms around Carson's collar bone. "Wook what I dwew for Mommy!"

Carson laughed once he saw the colorful creation made by a two year old. He didn't know that just a two year old boy could have such an imagination. "It looks awesome, little dude. Where did you learn how to color like that?"

"Aunt Cawliee taught me!" He answered with a grin, showing the only six teeth he had.

"Of course that crazy woman would teach him that," Carson muttered under his breath, making Jennifer laugh.

"Now Carson, you know how Carliee is. She's obsessed with teaching this boy the rights and wrongs. She just doesn't want him to end up like...you-know-who."

Carson nodded, setting Garrett down in front of the TV. He grabbed the remote, and turned the channel onto Spongebob Squarepants. He smirked when he saw Garrett's eyes glue to the TV screen. "I know. Anyways, I came here for a reason besides to just see you and Garrett."

"What's the reason?" Jennifer questioned cautiously, raising an eyebrow. She always hated when he had a different reason. There was no telling what he was up to.

"I talked to Jase to see when his next mission was," Carson began, glancing up to see Jennifer's reaction. For all he knew, she would smack him in the head with one of Garrett's toys. "He said he was leaving at that moment, but would be back in a couple hours. So, I was thinking to myself that I'll bring you and Garrett there.

"You'll sit in his private office until he gets back. When he gets back, he will go to his office and see you there. You can talk with him about Garrett and everything will fall into place."

Jennifer sat there, mouth slightly agape. He actually had the nerve to bring her to her ex-boyfriend's secret hideout? So she could talk to him about his son? Yeah, that would work out just fine. "Carson James Westwood! How dare you even think about that? For all I care, Jase could go die in a piss hole!"

Looks like it's someone's time of the month, Carson thought to himself. He knew better than to say that though. She would literally murder him. "Please? I came up with that good of a plan, you could at least carry it out."

Jennifer thought hard about it, then sighed softly. "Fine, but it's Jase we're talking about. He's like a wolf. He'll be all calm when he comes back, then when he sees that I am on his territory, he'll get angry and defensive."

"That's why if a wolf bites you, you bite them in the ear to show them who's boss."

She nodded. "So when do you want to leave?"

"We could leave now," Carson shrugged, looking around the room like it was the first time he came in.

"Fine, let's go," Jennifer replied, getting up from the couch. She grabbed the remote from Carson's fingers and pressed the power button to turn it off. "Hey, Garrett sweetie. Do you wanna go for a ride with Uncle Carson?"

Garrett tilted his head a little bit to the right, then nodded slowly. "Yeah, I guess."

Jennifer gave him a small smile, picking him up from the ground and placing him on her hip. She grabbed his baby tote bag and turned towards Carson. She raised her eyebrows questioningly. "Well? Are we going to leave or not?"

Carson rolled his eyes, walking out the living room to the foyer. Jennifer followed him out the door, locking it behind her. For all she knew, they would be there for days waiting on Jase. Once she got to Carson's truck, she buckled Garrett up in the toddler carseat. She crawled into the passenger seat and buckled herself in. "Okay, let's go."

________

Jennifer walked into the medium-sized room that was said to be Jase's private office. She placed Garrett's baby tote bag in one of the lounge chairs that was seated in front of a desk. Wow, Jase really went all out for a private office, Jennifer thought to herself as she looked around the office. The walls were painted a burgandy color, but they had holes in some spots. Probably because Jase either punched it or shot it. The desk had tons of papers spread all over, and of course an ashtray that was filled with cigarettes. Jennifer sat down in the leather chair behind the desk, sitting Garrett on her lap.

Suddenly, the door swung open to reveal the devil himself. Jase Banner. He looked up from the ground, his mouth falling open at what he saw. He couldn't believe that his ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Vice, was sitting down right in front of him. His eyes flickered to the toddler that was on her lap. He knew that was her son. Their son to be more exact.

"Jennifer?" He questioned in shock. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"It's nice to see you too, Jase," She rolled her eyes, running a hand through Garrett's thick dark brown hair. "I'm here because I wanted to see you."

Jase raised an eyebrow, his eyes focused on both Jennifer and Garrett. "Why? Who's the kid?"

Jennifer sighed. "First, you may want to sit down and let me talk."

He rolled his eyes, shutting the door behind him and locking it. "First, you're in my chair. Second, just tell me what the hell you need to tell me."

She rolled her eyes, and sighed once again. Well, she tried. "Okay, well, this is Garrett. Garrett Michael-Austin Vice. He's your son that I was pregnant with when you decided to leave me. We were perfectly fine, but Carson wanted me to come over here and tell you about Garrett. One, you need to know that you have a son. And two, he needs to know he has a father."

"Jen, I don't have time for a kid," Jase growled. "I don't know anything about kids."

"That's why I'm here, Jase," She faintly smiled. "As long as I'm here, you're never going to be alone with Garrett. I just wanted to know if you would like to even attempt to be in Garrett's life."

"I'll try," Jase replied, a frown upon his face. "I can't make any promises that I'll be a good dad, but I'll try."

Jennifer's faint smile formed into a normal, visible one. At least he was going to try to be a real father. "Would you like to meet your son?"

Jase hesitated for a second. Should he really get involved with a kid? He reluctantly nodded, walking over towards Jennifer and Garrett. He kneeled down in front of them, giving Garrett a small smile. "Hey, little man. I'm Jase."

Garrett looked up, meeting the same pair of icy blue eyes that he held. Except Jase's eyes were much darker. It made him shrink down a little inside in fear. "Hi..."

This made both Jase and Jennifer frown. If it was one thing that Jennifer knew well about her son, it was that he was definitely not shy. He was one of the most outgoing toddlers she knew! "Garrett, what's wrong, baby? Are you not feeling good?"

Garrett shook his head, burying his face into Jennifer's stomach with his arms wrapped around her. Jennifer's frowned deepened as she ran her hand through his short hair. She looked up at Jase to see him with a slightly hurt expression. "I'm sorry, Jase. He's usually not like this when he meets new people. He always likes meeting new people."

"I'm not just any new person, Jen," Jase glared slightly. "I'm his daddy. I wanted my own son to at least tolerate me, but I guess that's not going to happen any time soon."

Garrett slowly lifted his head up from Jennifer's stomach and tilted his head slightly to the right. "You're my daddy?"

Jase and Jennifer exchanged glances with each other, then Jase nodded with a fake smile. "Yeah, little buddy. I'm your dad."

Garrett smiled genuinely once Jase confirmed. He unraveled himself from his mother's arms and wrapped his arms around Jase's neck. "Daddy!"

Jase's eyes widened in surprise, then went back to normal once he snapped out of it. He wrapped his strong arms gently around Garrett's small frame. Tears glistened in his blue eyes as he now realized that his son actually liked him now. "That's right, Garrett. I'm your father."
