Chapter Nine
Sydney's POV
I shot up from my sleep, sweat pouring from my forehead and covering the rest of my body. I covered my face with my hands. Ever since the night at the Cullen's, the nightmares have started again. It has changed though. When I get to the rock, Leah is standing there. I reach my hand toward her and she just walks away. Leaving me alone on the rock waiting for my parents. It's been about a month since I've seen Leah.
I try to hold a sob in, but I can't hold it in for long. My heart hurts all the time. My body feels like it's always eating itself from the inside out. There is always something that reminds me of Leah. No matter what I do. I've mostly receded to being by myself again. Only time I leave the house is when I go to school and run patrols. I'm more depressed than I've ever been. Even my Aunt has noticed. She usually just ignores me, but lately she's started looking concerned.
The was a slight noise outside my window, I looked down to see Paul in his wolf form. It was my turn to run patrols and he was coming to get me. I jumped out the window and headed toward the woods. This is my third night in a row running patrols. Ever since Sam found out I imprinted on Leah, he assigned me patrols on most nights.
We were running back to La Push, after the basic defeat. Sam was fuming, he hated that the Cullen's were still alive. He hated even more that Embry left and joined Jake's pack. We ran in silence, other than thoughts of the fight. We just crossed back into La Push territory when the thought of me protecting Leah flashed across Paul's mind. Sam's deep growl stopped everyone in their tracks. Sam turned his angry eyes on me.
'You imprinted on Leah?' He growled and I didn't answer him. "Answer me!' He growled louder making me flinch.
'Yes.' I responded quietly. He looked like he wanted to attack me. I don't understand why he was so upset. He already had his imprint. Why is he so upset that Leah found hers? Not that she wanted me anyway. You would think he would want her to be happy seeing he was the one who broke her heart in the first place.
'Shut your damn mouth!' Sam yelled and he attacked me. I didn't get a chance to move in enough time. I yelped as he locked his jaw on my side. I tried to scratch him to make him let go, but he gripped tighter he gripped tighter. The rest of the pack was yelling for him to get off of me.
'Sam, stop!' Quil yelled, 'What would Emily think?' Only then did he let me go. I laid there whimpering. He just glared at me.
'Get up.' He said and I tried but dropped back down in pain. His teeth went pretty deep. My blood was covering his mouth. 'Run patrol until the sun comes up.'
'Sam, what the hell?' Paul asked in shock and anger.
'She's hurt.' Jared said.
'I don't care.' Sam said and looked down at me again and used his alpha voice, 'Now.' He then ran away from everyone. The pack looked at each other in shock. I guess he's never acted like this before.
'I knew he was sensitive about Leah, but never expected him to go that far.' Quil said and tried to use his head to help me up. I yelped in pain as I moved. When I finally was on my feet, I had to use Quil to stay up. Everyone else started slowly leaving. I looked down at the ground, trying to hold in my whimpers of pain.
Ever since that night, anytime Sam sees me, he sends me on patrol. Plus patrols every night. A few times he sends me on back to back patrol. I used to think he was such a great person. This has definitely changed my opinion. The pack has tried to stop him, but nothing anyone says makes it better. Emily is the only person who seems to save me sometimes. She doesn't know why he's being like this but she knows there is tension between us.
