It's time to ride and I'm slightly curious about the girl I hit with the door earlier. Tucker, one of the guys I've met earlier, said he could have been given a heart attack by her. I don't know if she is his family member or if he is an old family friend, but that will need to be investigated later. For now, I need to get ready to show that dumb ass who can out ride who. The son of a bitch has a big ego and he is too cocky for his own good.
"Tyler," I hear Dale say from the other side of the thin curtain.
"Come on in," I respond buttoning up my shirt. He comes in with a strange look on his face. "What's up with you?"
"I need to ask a favor of you," he begins with a hint of hesitation.
"What do you need," I ask getting a little irritated because he isn't getting straight to the point.
"The girl you hit with the door, she isn't just an business associate. She is the daughter of one of my old friends that used to ride. In fact you remind me of him, straight to the point and one hell of a rider."
"And you're telling me this why?"
"Because that friend died in the ring at the horns of Rango's father. Tucker promised that if anything happened to him, then he would keep a close eye on the girl. Anyway, since she is an important business associate and a responsibility of Tucker, I want you to help keep an eye on her."
"So let me get this straight. The girl lost her dad to Rango's dad and now it is expected that everyone basically babysit a grown ass woman?"
"It's not just because she lost her dad. She hasn't been the most stable person since she lost her dad and we fear the worst. Can you please just help out? I'm going around and asking all the other guys to help out as well."
"If it will get you to shut up and leave me alone today, then I'll keep an eye on the girl."
"Great, see you in the ring Tyler," he says before leaving. I open my laptop and google what happened to her dad and find a five minute video showing the entire thing. After watching it, I feel a little sick and kinda bad for the girl. I did find out that her name is violet, so that might help out a little bit.
When I leave my tent, I get half way to the ring and chutes when I see Violet sitting on the hill looking away from where the action is taking place. I walk over to her and tap on her shoulder. She turns around and reveals tear streaks going down her face. She is curled up so that her arms are wrapped around her shins. I sit down on the ground next to her and fold myself up to mirror her.
"Is everything alright," I ask when she looks away. She nods, but more tears fall. I look at her shin and her jeans look red in one spot. I move her hand to find a nice sized cut. "What did you do to your shin."
"I tripped and some cocky asshole laughed and walked away," she whimpers.
"Alright, I'll deal with that asshole later, let me take you to my tent and patch you up. I don't want Tucker to yell at you," I say before getting up and lifting her into my arms. She is surprisingly light, do it's easy to get her to my tent and patch her up quickly. "Do you want to come watch me ride or do you want to stay in here?"
"I want to watch you ride. I've heard you have the potential to be as good as my dad was."
"Yeah, sorry to hear about that by the way. I seen what happened, I don't blame you for being sore with bulls."
" It was a long time ago. Let's get down to the ring so you can get in the chute."
"Lead the way," I say before we leave for the ring. Upon arrival I get a good luck before we part ways. I pass Dale and trip him for payback because I know he tripped Violet. Climbing into the chute, I have the image of what happened to her dad going through my head so I'm a little nervous. After getting situated, I give them the nod and the gate opens.
This time the bull doesn't buck too much so I try for as many style points as I can. I'm about five seconds in when the bull makes a hard left, almost knocking me to the ground. When the buzzer goes off, I get off and celebrate. To my disappointment, when I look at Violet she points behind me and screams. I turn to see a bull charging at me so I run and jump up on the fence. I jump down once the bull is gone and go back to my tent. I get dressed without any distraction and make it to my truck and find Violet under the hood of her rental.
"Need a hand there," I say making her jump and hit her head.
"Uh, yeah. If it's not too much trouble," she says with a smile rubbing her head.
"Next time I see you, I'm going to wrap bubble wrap around you. It will make Tucker feel a little better I bet."
"Probably will. So, uh, how much do you know about what happened to my dad? What do you know about my relationship with the circuit?"
"I know what was on the internet and what I heard from Dale. Why?"
"Well it's kinda embarrassing for me to have had people seen me like that."
"You had a reason to. You watched the man that helped create and raise you die there in cheyenne."
"Can I tell you something about that night that no one else but mom and I know without you telling anyone?"
"Yeah, what's on your mind," I ask continuing to work on the car.
"Well, that night mom and dad got into such a big fight that they planned a divorce and mom said that she hopes he never comes home."
"Really? Geeze sounds like you had a handful of issues to deal with that night."
"Yeah. So what's your story?"
"Just a guy that wants to be the best bull rider in the world that comes from a small town in texas."
"Do you still have parents?"
"I have my mom still, and my dad died of a heart attack."
"Did he ride bulls too?"
"Yeah, he never got this far though. What's with the questions all of a sudden?"
"You are the only person that bothered to talk to me. Everyone else won't give me the time of day and one even trips me."
"Don't worry, I tripped him back for you. What are you doing tomorrow?"
"Nothing why?"
"Well things have changed a lot since your dad's time, I wanted to catch you up to speed and get to know you better, since you insist on being friends."
"Okay, sounds good."
"There, try it now," I say finishing working on the car. She starts it up and is finally ready to go. "I'll get your room number from your boss and pick you up there."
"Alright, goodnight Tyler and thanks for everything," she says before pulling away and leaving. There is just something about that girl that interests me. I don't know if it's the danger prone part or her looks but she is a pretty cool girl. Tomorrow is going to be interesting. I better get to the hotel if I'm going to get enough sleep to keep her from dying all day tomorrow. I get in my truck, start it and turn the radio on. Once ready, I get on my way to get ready for the interesting day that tomorrow has to hold. Hopefully it will be as fun as I think it is without any injury on Violet's part.
