My hungergames life

Chapter 1

Tommorow is the day. The reaping. I'm afraid, afraid my mother will break when another child of hers is gone, her only daughter, afraid my little brother will loose a sibling for the third time. I'm not afraid of the capitol, not even a little, they can kill me I know, but they won't ever get my soul. I think of my brothers, I think of Nathaniel, the first one to be reaped and send into the hungergames. I remember myself running out of my zone and screaming, trying to volunteer for him. He walked up to me, ruffeled my hair and told me it will be fine. I loved him, I believed in him. He learned me fishing, he learned me how to make mom happy, he learned me how to take care of our youngest brother, he learned me about life. I remember thinking he would win as every naïve twelf-yearold would do and him, being far to wise for a fourteen-yearold, trying to survive whenever he knew i was watching. He was my hero. He became 5th. What was left of him got send to us. We burried him and I cried while Micheal, the oldest brother, held me in his arms. The next two years nothing happend but then Michael got reaped, i've learned my lesson and diddn't scream or cry. I just watched and hugged him for the last time. He became 15th. He died two days before he turned seventeen. I remember burrying him next to Nathaniel and holding the hand of the youngest one. Not much later our dad died. We got from six to three in only four years. And now we're here. I'm mad. Mad at the capitol for doing this to me.

"Hailey! Come on!" My mother calls from downstairs. I scream and throw a little blue vase against the brown wall of my small bedroom where I had sleepovers with Nathaniel. I run to the kitchen, to my mom. She looks at me with love in her eyes. "We're going to the lake." She says while holding my little brother Jason's hand. 'Going to the lake' was my moms code for 'please have fun and don't let us think about what's gonna happen tommorow.' She always did this since Nathaniel got reaped. I nodded and took Jason's other hand.
