Liam
"Uniforms are in!"
Lou happily runs into the control room holding five costume bags. She lays them all out separately. Niall and I, the only two not really doing much of anything at the moment, walk over to the table where the costumes are sitting. On each costume bag, our superhero names are stitched in white. I find mine, with "Houdini" sewn in cursive print, and go to open it when a hand slaps mine away.
"You wait until the others are here," Lou demands. "You too, Niall."
"Lads! Get in here!" I shout at the top of my lungs. I'm anxious to see what color mine is, what designs it might have. Within a few minutes, Zayn, Louis, and a sweating Harry parade into the room, Paul close behind them.
With a smile, Lou gladly says, "Okay, now you can look."
Don't need to tell me twice. Like a kid ripping open presents on Christmas morning, I practically tear open the zipper and pull out the uniform. And, needless to say, Lou's mum has outdone herself.
Inside the bag is a green mesh unitard. The shoulders, elbows, and knees are black, and they're harder than the rest of the suit, like an armor of some sort. The same padding is on the torso and back. The outfit is complete with black gloves, black steel-toe boots, and a black mask that would cover the skin around my eyes and my nose.
"Wow," I breathe. "This is amazing."
Glancing around at the others' suits, I notice that all of ours look very similar. Harry's is maroon mesh with grey padding on the joints. Louis's is black with bright blue padding, and it reminds me of Nightwing's uniform. Niall's is the same bright blue as Louis' padding, but has white padding and accessories (expect for the mask; all our masks are black). Zayn's looks different; instead of bright yellow joint padding on his navy blue suit, the bright yellow starts at the center of his back and wraps around his shoulders and hips. It looks like his suit is creating lightning.
"I'm very impressed," says Louis.
"Well, don't thank me. She told me that, for some of you power-specifics, she had to make them special. Zayn, you have a fire resistant suit, that way it won't burn up when you shoot lightning," Lou explains.
Just to try it out, Zayn slips on one of the gloves and lights his hand up in sparks. Sure enough, the suit stays intact. "That's sweet."
"That's it," she says. "If you need adjustments or fixing, just let me know. Also, she made the masks out of this really cool material that sticks to skin, so there's no need for a tie. See?" She grabs mine and places it against her face. Though its a little big, after a few head-bangs and shakes, it's apparent that the mask isn't going anywhere.
"I'm amazed," I say when she hands it back to me.
"Yeah, thanks, love," Harry adds.
Lou shrugs, flashing us a little smile before grabbing her purse and leaving the facility.
"Paul, can we go try them on?" Zayn asks.
"Please?" Louis begs.
With a laugh, Paul says, "Sure. Louis and Liam, keep yours on. Don't forget, you're going on patrol in a couple of hours." We all have a little bit too much excitement running through our veins as we head over to the costume room.
How superheroes change so quickly, I have no idea. It takes me ages to squeeze my body into the unitard. And what's worse is how itchy it is. I feel like I have chicken pox all over again. When the back is zipped up, I slip into the boots and gloves, both perfect fits, and grab my mask.
