As we were sitting and chatting waiting for the waitress to come, I heard a loud noise of a motor and noticed a very familiar motor bike come to park right in front of the shop’s window that we sat near. The sleek black bike had red flames near the tank and red rims on tires. Even before the person removes the helmet as walking to the doors, I knew exactly who it was and stood up immediately.
“Hey Liz” I said approaching the red head who held the helmet standing in front of the cashier.
“OMG! Mindy?” she said spreading her arms and grabbing me into a big hug. She is nearly one foot taller than me and strong enough to lift me up in a hug. And mumbled “long time no see” and let go after a several good seconds.
And after observing me she poked me saying “you’ve got skinny like a stick! The last time I saw you, you were twice the size. What the duck happened to you?”
I chuckled and replied “Life happened, and some other not-so-important things. What about you? Still working at the Willy’s? New haircut huh?” I asked turning her around to see her hair properly. Being as edgy as she already is, Liz never stayed in the same hair cut or color for more than 3 or maximum 4 months. This time she had cut very short with two layers and a huge bang. More like an asymmetrical pixie cut.
“I quit Willy’s last year and joined Amanda with her clothing line. And the NYM called me to join them for some projects just two weeks ago. So I left Amanda’s and came here. What are you doing here?”
And then only it came into my mind that I left Frank there without a word. “I came with him. He had a meeting with the NYM.” I said pointing out Frank.
“Frank Epstein? You came with Frank Epstein?” asked Liz with wide eyes.
“I work for the studio, nearly six months now. I work with him till he gets an agent. So… met anyone special?” I asked.
“Nope.” Said Liz grinning. “Dated more than half the girls back there and still no chance, hope to finally find love in the city of stars. What about you?”
“Kidding me? I barely had a proper breadth lately. But I went on a date last week with Andy Hoffman.” I replied.
“The Andy Hoffman?” asked Liz again with wide eyes.
“Yup.” I said grinning and I noticed the evil smile creeping up her face. “But it was just a dinner date and it abruptly stopped when some paparazzi followed Frank.”
“You took him with you on your date?” asked Liz puzzled while picking up the coffee the waitress just handed her and sipping on it.
“No!” I replied immediately. “It was just a coincidence.” I explained further and felt my phone buzz.
It was a text from Frank. Why on earth would he text me sitting two tables across?
The message said “U came here wid me u know, b4 u left abruptly??? “
And I immediately turned to Liz and said “I better get there. I didn’t even excuse when I left.”
Liz pulled me into a big hug again and said “Ok love. Guess I’ll see you around then.” And kissed both my cheeks like she always did.
“Take care Lizzy.” Said I.
“You take care and put some weight on.” Said Liz with a wink before picking up the helmet to leave.
