I just looked at my brother not knowing what to say.
"I'm Liam. Liam Conroy. I play for the Falcons" Liam said. Saving me the trouble of having to come up with something to say about this whole situation.
"Do you know the jerk who hit my sister?" Austin said
Liam just looked down at his feet. I feel so sorry for him. He just came to apologize and now my brother will probably make him regret ever being born.
"Austin, Liam came to apologize on behalf of his team. You should be nice." I said.
Liam looked up at me gratefully.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't enjoy getting hit in the head but, my brother takes things to seriously, and it would be easier just to put things behind us. Liam doesn't seem like a bad guy and I'm just trying to help him out.
"Sorry, bro. I didn't mean to sound like a tool. Having 3 little sisters just makes you really protective." Austin said.
Oh. My. God.
Austin just apologized to someone! I never thought I’d see the day when Austin admits he's wrong AND apologizes. Woah, I must be dreaming.
"Eh, it’s cool man. I have a sister too; I know what it is like."
AWE. He's hot AND he is protective of his sisters. Do concussions make your hormones go out of whack or something? This isn't normal for me. I don't crush on guys I barely know.
Especially, not ones from rival schools. I'm the rational one.
Just then Austin's phone went off.
"Hey, sorry guys. It's my coach I have to take this. I'll be back in a few."
Austin walked out of the room and then it was Liam and me.
Uh oh.
Liam went and sat in the chair next to my hospital bed.
"Your brother seems cool." he said trying to make conversation. He looked nervous and he started to shake his leg.
"I guess if you consider annoying college hockey players cool than yeah he sure is."
He smiled.
"Hey! Don't dis hockey players"
I laughed
"Well considering I'm in the hospital for getting hit in the head with a hockey puck, I think I can dis them a little."
His face turned serious.
"I really am sorry. I feel horrible. The game got called after by the way."
"It's fine. I'm pretty sure you didn't target me before the game started"
I smiled. I wanted to make him feel better. It really wasn't his fault. It was just a freak accident that could have happened to anyone. Plus, considering it could have been a lot worse, I think I should be able to get over this quickly.
"No, I did target you."
...Wait...What?
"Um, excuse me?"
"I saw you in the stands before the game started. I wanted to talk to you but, your friend looked like she was freaking out. Then, I planned on finding a way to come up to you after the game, but... uh... that didn't work out"
Is he saying he saw me before the game? And he wanted to talk to me? Why?
"Yeah, I guess that didn't work out well did it." I said.
Humor always makes things better.
Well most of the time.
He smiled.
"No, but now I don't have to worry about any other guys being able to make a move before me." He said with a sheepish smile.
"I don't know. That doctor over there is pretty cute." I said pointing to an overweight 60 year- old balding doctor.
He laughed
"Oh dang! He is. I guess I do have some competition."
We both just looked at each other and laughed.
Austin came back in the room looking at laughing like maniacs.
"Drugs are bad you guys" he said with a smirk.
