Hi everyone! I'm so sorry I know it has been awhile since I've last updated. My stupid computer hasn't been working but, I finally got it fixed! The last few updates were written on my tablet and I didn't really get a chance to proofread them at all so, I am terribly sorry if they are horrendous. I will try to write longer and better now so, please try to be patient with me. It really does mean the world that more than one person has read this story. Thank you so much!
I took a seat at the table across from him.
“If I recall correctly I told you I wasn’t interested.” I was totally lying. But, he didn’t need to know that. I needed to act uninterested. If I kept pushing him away maybe he would take the hint. I didn’t want to get hurt and it hurt me to hurt him but, this is what is best for the both of us. I didn’t want him to lower his standards for me.
“That’s not what your eyes say Eleanor. I can tell you are battling with yourself on whether or not you should date me. You don’t hide it as well as you think you do.” He said smirking at me.
Ok, I may have been hiding my feelings but, he was hiding a beautiful ex- girlfriend whom he had yet to bring up! He is playing unfair by trying to be all sweet and charming. Nature set me back by making me awkward.
“I’m not hiding anything. I do like you. I think you seem like a very nice genuine guy but, I just don’t think we should date.” I said. I was trying to let him down gently. I didn’t want to hurt him. Even though we just met a few days ago, I did care for him. I didn’t want to ruin his reputation and this relationship would just be too complicated.
“I knew you liked me” he said with the biggest smile on his face “I just don’t understand why you won’t date me. Is it because we go to different schools or something?” His face reflected the confusion in his voice. I couldn’t blame him, I wasn’t making any sense. “I could always just transfer schools you know?” he said smiling.
Oh God no. I would be kicked off honor roll within a week because I would not be able to focus with him in school.
“Oh no, don’t do that. I just think we shouldn’t date. It wouldn’t be good for the both us. You shouldn’t lower your standards just to be with me.” The last part I kind of just blurted out accidently. I could feel my eyes widening as shock as soon as that part slipped out. He wasn’t meant to know that. He was just supposed to walk away from this sinking ship and not look back.
“Eleanor Hawthorne, do you really think I would be lowering my standards by dating you?” he grabbed my hands that I had clasped together at the edge of the table when I acknowledged my lack of self-esteem and looked me dead in the eye and said “If anything you would have to lower your standards to go out with a guy like me.” I could tell he was being sincere but, part of me believes he is just sweet-talking me to go out with him.
“I don’t know. I’m just a no body. You should be dating a cheerleader or something.” Something like that impossible beautiful girl he already had a picture with.
“I mean I could do that but, there would be no chemistry there. We would be pressured into dating by mutual friends and we would hang out but, we would never really love each other. I’ve seen that happen to more than one of my friends which is why, I promised myself that if I ever found a girl who I had felt an immediate connection with I would earn a date with her no matter what I had to do and that is why I am here now. Ellie, do you really think I would be here begging you to go on a date with me if I considered you lower than my “standards”?”
He did have a point. He really did seem to like me. I should give him a chance. The little voice inside of my head kept telling me to be cautious and tread lightly but, for once in my life, I was going to ignore it and do what I really wanted.
“No.”
And with that he started to lean in. I followed his lead and just before our lips met. My cell phone went off.
“You should get that” he said smiling.
I turned away to get my phone from my bag, it was Alyssa
“Hey, Lys what is it? I’m kind of in the middle of something.” I answered
Liam smiled as I answered my sister’s call.
“Oh nothing, I just wanted to see if you wanted to go shopping once you finished your homework. I am in desperate need of some new boots.”
“Um sure, I guess I could” leave it to Alyssa to ruin this moment. I guess I couldn’t really blame her. I never did tell her about Liam and even if I did she wouldn’t know he surprised me at the library and almost kissed me less than a minute ago.
“Ok, I’ll be home waiting for you to return, my darling sister.”
“Goodbye, Alyssa.” I replied
“I’m really sorry but, that was my sister and she wants to hang out tonight.” I said. I am disappointed that I have to leave now.
“And just when things were getting good. I’m kidding. I’ll only let you leave on one condition though” he said trying to appear serious but, I could tell he was joking underneath.
I decided to play along. “And what would that be?” I said.
“You give me your number so, I can get ahold of you and not stalk you on twitter and libraries.” He said. Well that did make sense. It was nice to know I wasn’t the only one creeping on social media. “And you have to come to my next hockey game.”
“You have a deal. But, only if you promise not to hit me in the head with a hockey puck again.”
He leaned over and kissed my forehead. “I am still so sorry for that. But, I promise you will be safe. And afterwards I was thinking you and I could go out to dinner?”
“I’d like that very much.” I just couldn’t say no to him anymore.
“C’mon get your stuff. I’ll walk you to your car.” He said smiling
It’s weird. I came to the library to finish some homework. But, now I am leaving with a relationship with a handsome hockey player.
After, I got my stuff collected. We both stood up and started walking over to the exit.
As we were walking Liam put his arm around me and guided me through the door. We walked in silence till we got to my car just, enjoying the bliss of our newly found relationship.
“So when is your next game” I asked before I got in my car. Knowing the information for our first date might be helpful
“Tonight at 9. Just so you know I am number 7 and the best player on the ice.” He said with a cocky smile.
I guess I have a hot date tonight literally and not with my laptop either. With a really cute boy who really had managed to steal my heart within a couple of days
“Alright, I’ll have to see it to believe it. Do you mind if I bring my sister though, so I don’t look like a loner.” I said joking with him
“Of course, go ahead. Just tell her she needs to be a body guard for all of the guys that you will attract.”
I laughed “Alright, I’ll let her know.”
He kissed me on the cheek.
“I’ll see you tonight” he said with a smile on his face. Before turning to walk to his car.
I had the biggest smile on my face as I started my car.
I was going on my first date tonight.
How was I going to explain this all to Alyssa?
