Four hundred ninety eight... Four hundred ninety nine... Five hundred...

Finally she's halfway there.

I could feel her weariness but she's full of determination.

Why am I here for?

To grant the wish of this girl in depression?

Five hundred nine... Five hundred ten... Five hundred eleven...

Yes I am the first of her creation

But I alone can't grant her wish of heaven

This girl full of determination

Folding each papers to crane

Five hundred twenty one... Five hundred twenty two... Five hundred twenty three...

Aren't you tired of this?

You are nothing but a pale girl scavenging for papers and mercy

From the Kami-sama who have forgotten you

And didn't protect you from the foreigner's animosity

Five hundred sixty six... Five hundred sixty seven... Five hundred sixty eight...

Your time is slowly ticking

I bet it is too late

Yet I can't understand this strange feeling

Is it because of your faith?

Five hundred eighty eight... Five hundred eighty nine... Five hundred ninety...

Now I understand

Her hopes, her dreams, to live a life of happy

Neither purple swollen leg nor pale cancer blood can stop

The twelve years old girl to pray sincerely

Six hundred fifteen... Six hundred sixteen... Six hundred seventeen...

Her body is weak and frail

But she's still fighting

Hold it up Sadako-chan! Three hundred eighty three to go!

But can she still get up when the radioactive pain is lingering?

Six hundred forty two... Six hundred forty three... Six hundred forty four...

She requested Okaa-san for a Chazuke

I am sad because I know why she asked that for

She slowly savored the soup and bluntly said "Oishi"

I know it's her last words and she won't speak anymore

Why? Why should you take away such lovely girl?

What's her transgression that you punish her this way?

To show revenge for the death of your pearl?

Now tell me, can you bring back the autumn leaves to May?

I am buried with her...with my six hundred forty three brethren

With the coffin of Sadako-chan, and the other six hundred fifty six cranes

I can feel her love ones melancholy and burden

But I wish her death will be the insignia of world peace like heavens

I have found this poem I created months ago in my drawer today. It is my poem about Sasaki Sadako, a hibakusha (Bomb-affected Person) who died at a young age of twelve because of a radiation illness. Her story is really sad because she still wanted to live longer and enjoy life but it wasn't granted to her by her fate. She didn't want to die that she attempted to make 1000 paper cranes to grant her wish of longer life. Unfortunately, she died after she finished the 644th crane. However, her death and story becomes a symbol of peace memorial here at Hiroshima and probably the whole world.

Sadako was same age as me now when she died and I am really so thankful that I am enjoying peace and long life now, unlike her. I can sing, dance, and be merry without any fear because of peace. I pray that love and peace would rule over the world so that there would be no other Sadako who would be withheld with a blissful life which everyone deserves. :)
