Chapter 9

"We fight every night for something, when the sun sets were both the same. Half in the shadows, half burned in flames" Xavier's whispers took over the silence.

"What...?" I asked uninterested

"Its a song..." his reply doesn't half answer my question.

My head kneeling against the hard brick wall, I want tears to come out my eyes, desperately. I want someone to blame, I want someone to take out all my anger on but that never ends well. The last time that happened my father left to join the army. What type of father leaves his teenage daughter and fragile wife wondering if he would survive a gun shot every day? The type that wants to protect his country. But that wasn't enough of an answer, because he left anyway. Without a word.

"We're never going to get out of here..." my voice aches for Xavier's reply.

"We will, my dad will bail us out..."

A FEW HOURS AGO

I'm walking down the road, the last road me and Shane had walked on together. Except this time I have the company of Xavier.

"And the ball kicked right at the back of his head! I swear, that was the first time I saw him scream in pain, how can pain be so hilarious? Honestly, you should've seen it. That wasn't the only time, you know Brian? Our last match in Se-"

I cut him off, I can't bear him talking about all his soccer memories when we are basically walking on the road where Shane Archerbolt was last seen alive.

"Do you not have any respect? There are flowers to the boy you knew! Who yo-" he cuts me off.

"I'm not going to feel guilty every time I walk down this road, Adria."

"Good, I hope you don't feel guilty on your way to the police station either" a similar voice arises from behind us, detective Grange.

"Xavier Kane? Adria Colburn?"a cops shows up from behind him handing Detective Grange spare cuffs.

"What's going on? What is this?" Xavier takes hold of my wrist, slowly instructing me to walk backwards with him.

The cop grabs my hand off his grip and places me against their car. Placing my hands behind my back. I don't struggle.

"Hey! Hey! Get off her! What the hell is going on?" Xavier's voicing is no point, were getting arrested whether he likes it or not.

I rest my head on the top of the car, closing my eyes. Realising my fate.

"Adria Colburn, you are under arrest for the murder of Shane Archerbolt. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have an attorney present during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you." He points me into his car as the cuffs burn my wrists.

"Xavier Kane, you are under-" the door closes and my journey to jail began.

"You don't have enough evidence to charge her against anything, especially murder! My client won't take any of your deals," my attorney speaks up for me.

The room is huge, big enough to fill hundreds of people. The table is newly made, shiny and clean. The chairs, comfortable and the light dim as it shines down. Nothing, like you'd see on TV. But, my situation? It was everything and more you'd see on the big screens. The thought of every character became my own. I'm never going to be happy, not after this, not after everything that's happened.

"We'll let Adria decide for herself, thank you very much. Adria, do you accept the offer?" Detective Grange asks, almost to the point of begging.

I look up into his eyes, then look back down at my shivering hands. It's not cold. I'm not cold.

"I didn't kill him."

I've been an excellent liar all my life but Xavier isn't.

"Well, evidence suggests otherwise."

My attorney sighs. I fiddle with my shivering fingers. Detective Grange coughs intentionally and opens up his mouth again.

I'm never getting out of this.

"Adria, you were found arguing with the victim the night before he died. You lied to about your location at the time of his death. You and your pal didn't seem to be in shock when your teacher first announced his death. And, oddly enough, Shane Archerbolts suicide note has your finger prints all over it. DO YOU ADMIT TO THE MURDER OF SH-"

My attorney cuts him off, finally.

"Statements from a few witness's and one piece of fingerprint found doesn't count for anything. That's not enough to charge her of murder. You don't have the right"

"Actually, sir. I do, I also have the right to keep her in a holding cell until she accepts the deal and we move on to the trial or she gets a bail, which at this case. Is impossible" his voice, sharp and confident.

"I didn't kill him." I say for the last time, holding my breath in straight after,

"Take her to the holding cell, we'll deal with her later." Grange says to the police officer by the door. He's had enough of me now if he didn't before.

My cuffs back on, the doors open, I'm walking down the empty criminal filled corridor again before I'm soon chucked into the cell, Xavier waiting for me.



Sorry for not updating in ages, I'll try stop taking ages. Anyway, here's my 9th chapter. Sorry, if this book is taking too long on uploads. I don't really have an excuse. So, I aplogize. Hope you enjoyed it, and till next time ;)
