"I've already told you a million times, I don't want to go!" Leah hissed venomously as her best friend dragged her to her front porch.
"And I've already told you a million times, I don't care," Lydia rolled her eyes as Leah struggled from her vice-like grip while she opened the door to her house.
Leah was definitely not a party girl. She loved to spend her days at home during the winter in front of the fireplace, a mug of hot chocolate in her hand, and a good philosophical book on her lap. She liked to ponder and be immaculate.
And during the summer, it was pretty much the same thing, except that she would sit down in front of the AC, a Nutella ice-cream cone in her hand, and a good depressing book on her lap. She liked to uplift her spirit by reading about the dark state of things.
So it made perfect sense that when Lydia invited her over at her house for an afternoon party that weekend, she declined the offer. Lydia hadn't given up though, and had asked her to come over almost every wake second, and Leah made sure to turn her down each time.
How did she end up at her doorstep, she wouldn't have a clue.
All she did was lounge around in the shade of her backyard, reading in front of her small pool deck, dressed in a yellow sundress with only a matching bikini underneath, when suddenly, Lydia had pounced on her relaxing figure, and dragged her off to her house which was a mere 3 houses away.
Their closeness was regularly a blessing when it comes to hanging out and having sleepovers, but made it difficult for Leah to use distance as an excuse in times like these.
Of course Leah had tried to run away, but Lydia wasn't Florida's wrestling champion for nothing. Her grip cut off all circulation from her tanned arm, and she was sure that it'll bruise her, but probably not more than it would bruise her ego.
So now, here they were walking into Lydia's kitchen which was packed with the bodies of people Leah had never seen before.
"Who are these?" she asked, looking around in disgust.
"Friends," Lydia shrugged, "Some from work, some from high school, some from college, and of course word travels around," she tried to make Leah sit on a bar stool, but she was having none of it.
"I'm sorry, Lydi, but even if you dragged me the whole way here, no way in hell am I drinking," she scoffed, crossing her arms, and stomping away from her best friend. The only indication that she wasn't seriously angry was that she had called her Lydi. Had she called her Lydia, it would've been pretty much impossible to get her to cool down.
Lydia slumped her shoulders, and shrugged slightly before heading off to her living room to have a small chat/make out session with her boyfriend of 6 years, Kevin Cordes.
Meanwhile, Leah walked out of the back door to step out onto the pool deck to sit on the white lounge chairs. The whole neighborhood was designed the same way, so she never had a problem with maneuvering herself around her neighbors' houses, especially with being familiar with Lydia's.
The chlorine smell always soothed her. She may not be the best swimmer; she could only keep herself afloat and swim freestyle, but that didn't prevent her from loving the few moments she spent in her pool.
She was addicted to feeling as if surrounded by silk when she was underwater.
She stood in the shade, regretting that she didn't bring her sunscreen. You see, she may be deeply tanned, but that doesn't prevent her from getting severe sunburn if she stood unprotected in the sun. You could say that she has sensitive skin.
Her sun hat flopped over her face, and her pretty brown eyes fluttered all around the pool.
Mostly there were a bunch of short girls that couldn't have been older than 13, holding cups of beer that she had no idea how they could stand, and flirting with guys that seemed double their age, AKA, Leah's age.
