After a few, well more than a few drinks we were definitely drunk.
"You know, this band isn't too bad." I said looking at Alex while giggling a little.
"You are very right my lady." Alex replied.
Their sound was intriguing, I really enjoyed the set. Let's hope i'll have enough memory to right an article on them tomorrow. Tonight was about Alex though. I've never seen him drunk. I kind of like him like this, he's so much more laid back, natural almost. I think when he's sober he holds back his true self. Drinks dull the pain so the real you can come out to play.
"These drinks have never tasted so good." I said while laughing.
Alex looked at me and laughed, "Another"
We took another round of shots. Oh boy am I going to regret this tomorrow. Sitting at the bar with him in someway feels right. Almost like I'm Holly Golightly and he's Paul Varjak in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
"So how are you really?" I asked Alex, hoping he'd tell me the truth.
"To be honest, I'm not well. I can't sleep, sure as hell can't eat. Drinking is the only thing I know I can do." Alex said with a little laugh.
"I'm sorry, I'm glad you're doing what you know how to do." I held up my beer to him. I really do feel awful for him. Well I feel awful for myself. Guess we're in the same boat.
"You're alright, you know that?" Alex said. He's dark brown eyes looked at me, they never looked better.
"You know, i've been told that once or twice." I said with a little laugh.
Alex and I laughed for a second and I put my head on his shoulder. "I don't want this night to end." I said.
"Well it doesn't have to, it's only" he looked down at his watch "1:34".
I lifted my head up and looked at him, "Well Fred what is there to do around here? You look a lot like my brother Fred. Do you mind if I call you Fred?"
"Oh my, so when you're drunk you turn into Audrey Hepburn." He said and we both start laughing.
"What can I say." I said while looking at him, he looked at me. It's like he was looking right into my soul. His eyes were piercing, but it felt okay, no it felt right. "Lets go for a walk"
We get up from the bar and start to walk for the door. He puts his hand on the small of my back. It felt warm and comforting. We reach the door and he holds it open for me.
"Why thank you Fred." I say with a little bow.
"You're welcome Holly." He said.
We start to walk down the street. The night grew cold and we grew closer. This night was better than I ever could have imagined.
"I'm glad you came with me tonight." I said.
Alex looked at me, "I'm glad I came too."
The stars were shinning with such a vivid light. It was almost like string lights were wrapping the sky. The moon was big, filling up half the sky. Tonight was perfect.
"Hey my apartment is a few blocks up if you want we can go.." I said.
"I'd love to." Alex said. We kept walking in the silky night.
