Chapter Sixteen
My shackled hand bounced against my shaking knees. I have yet to see Linny or Rachel since that fateful night, the night I am sure that will change my life for the better or the worse. The guards have denied my requests, on more than one occasion, to call either of them. I know that an inmate is allowed at least one phone call and they refused to give it to me. I am not the only one they are refusing this privilege too my cellmate, who’s name I figured out to be Justin, has only got to use the telephone twice during the eight months he has been incarcerated. Though he never told me why he was in here.
Justin had his brother, Hector, have a talk with me yesterday. He ran down all of the things I would have to go through in court if I am charged. From what I have been told, the prosecutor is trying to book me with home invasion and second degree murder. Home invasion alone can give me up to twenty years, second degree murder is a whole different story. By the determined look in his eye, I know he will help me if need be.
The guards here are crooked. They want us to pay them, not with actually money because obviously we wouldn’t be able to obtain that, in whatever we can get our hands on. But the catch is if we do get caught smuggling that into the jail, (which there is a ninety-five percent chance that we will), we never had that discussion with them. We must take full responsibility for everything. And I, quite frankly, think that it isn’t that serious. Unlike the other lowlifes in here I know I have a way out. Caroline will save me from this hellhole, I’m sure of it. But if there is some odd reason she can not, I know my sweet Rachel will come to my rescue.
It may be hard for her to understand at first but in due time she will eventually come around. I know this because Rachel is one of a kind, a diamond in the rough. With the right guidance in the right direction she’ll learn to love what I do. She and I will make a legendary couple, a modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Although they were shot and killed, we will not go out that way. We will not be as reckless or careless with our actions. With me as the prophet, Caroline as my consultant, and Rachel as my first lady, nothing can go wrong. As a team we will finally make this earth the heaven it was originally intended to be.
One of the guards, Larry I think his name might be, dragged me from my claustrophobic cell claiming that I have a visitor. I hoped and prayed that my visitor is Caroline, if it is not I will go crazy. Don’t get me wrong I miss Rachel dearly but in order for everything to blow over smoothly I need to speak with Rachel. Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait until I am released from this place to see her properly. I sighed for the umpteenth time awaiting the arrival of my unknown visitor. Whoever this is knows how to keep a man waiting that’s for sure. Just as I was about to give up hope Caroline strolled into the visiting room with a broad smile on her face. The police officer stationed at the door pointed her in my direction.
As she walked over to the both I was seated at I studied her odd attire. Caroline’s face looked… painted on, as if she had way too much make up on. Her lips were a vibrant red that matched her wool Peacoat. The light blue jeans she had on were basically skin tight which I have never seen in. Caroline’s style is loose fitting clothing, she always hated clothes the felt snug on her body.
“Hi, Liam. How are you?” she asked with the ridiculously wide smile plastered upon her fake face. Her pearly white teeth were beginning to blind me.
“I’ve seen better days,” I admitted honestly. She nodded her head knowingly as she held the black telephone closely to her ear. “Why are you dressed like.. a slut? Where are your normal clothes?” Her smiled dimmed slightly but then she surprised me by laughing at my serious questions. I rolled my eyes and waited for her laughter to subside. What the hell is wrong with her today, she is acting like she might be on some type of drug.
