"You're only hurting yourself," Sadie claimed shakily.
Dimitri turned back around curiously. "Why do you say that?"
Sadie struggled to sit up against the cell wall. Her latest beating left her weak. "Hurting me will only anger Brooklyn House."
"Maybe but they should put their anger into stopping the demigods," Dimitri said.
"Why do hate them so much? They must've done something personal to you," Sadie said.
"Let me tell you a story," Dimitri said, propping himself in front of her. Sadie raised her eyebrow with interest. "I grew up in the First Nome, so I watched the world through oil all the time. I would love to watch the demigod camps. They never knew that their counter parts lived across the country. Sure there were occasions where they would meet. It never ended well. Most magicians know there are other gods out there and stay away from the camps. Alas, some magicians got too curious. I'm afraid I was one of them. I was twelve when a group of us went on a mission to spy on the Romans. To make a long story short, we barely made it out of there alive. The Romans didn't even bother to talk to us before attacking. We weren't even in the camp. I started to track every time magicians came in contact with the demigods. None of them were very pleasant. Those demigods shouldn't be treating us like this. Why should we be the ones in hiding from them while they fool around and act like they are saving the world."
"Where were you during the war with chaos? I didn't see you trying to help us," Sadie said.
"I don't believe in working with our gods," Dimitri explained.
"Where have you been this entire time?" Sadie decided to ask.
"Here. Planning. Waiting," he said. "I finally got enough followers to begin my plan."
"How long did it take?"
"Over thirty years," he answered.
"Sounds lonely. You don't look that old but then again most magicians don't," Sadie commented.
Dimitri smirked. "I will leave you to get some rest. Tomorrow is going to be eventful."
"Can I ask you something?"
"You already did," Dimitri said.
Sadie smiled at herself. "I guess I did. I was wondering why you didn't beat me for Carter trying to help the demigods," she said.
"I'm not the bad guy. I only beat the first time because Carter needed a push. My intention is not to hurt you. Believe me when I say this, I am truly sorry for causing you pain," Dimitri said sincerely.
Sadie shifted until she was comfortable on the cold floor. "I might believe you if you can get me a blanket," Sadie said carefully.
"As you wish." Dimitri left Sadie in the cell. "Goodnight."
A few minutes later a rebel brings a blanket. Sadie still couldn't sleep though. Her mind is too focused on the fact that there might not be a villain in this story. Or at least it's not a person.
