Leo tapped his foot impatiently on the sand as he waited for the arrival of the rebels. "Could you stop?" Nico asked with an annoyed face.
Leo kept tapping. "No, I actually can't," he said.
"He's just nervous like the rest of us are," Jason said.
"Doesn't give him the right to annoy us all to death," Nico said.
"Good. At least we save the embarrassment of being killed by the rebels," Clarisse muttered.
"We really don't need the negativity," Annabeth said.
"But what is there to be positive about?" Clarisse asked.
"This could strength our relationship with the magicians in a good way," Hazel pointed out.
"Or backfire in our faces," Clarisse said.
"I'm sure their talk is going fine and we won't have to intervene," Piper said.
She was right of course. Dimitri had willingly came to talk to Carter peacefully. So far nothing surprising was happening. "Thank you for coming," Carter said.
Dimitri nodded. "Lets say I am interested as to what you have to say."
"I want peace just like you. We can't have that with you trying to kill everyone in your way."
"How do you want to deal with it?"
"With words and not actions," Carter said.
A smile slowly appeared on Dimitri's face. "So you don't want to fight?"
"I'm saying I won't fight," Carter said certainly.
"You won't take revenge for your sister's kidnapping?"
Carter shook his head. "Make a deal to leave the magicians alone and allow me the demigods?"
Carter shook his head yet again. "Very leader-like of you. Looking out for not just your own people, but your friends. And not only did you calm a uprising, but you gained trust and loyalty. That's all I've ever wanted from you, Carter Kane," Dimitri said. His features shifted from mischievous to knowing.
Carter's face scrunched up into confusion. "You did?"
"Yes."
Carter just stared at Dimitri in disbelief. "Right. You took my sister, caused a rebellion, and angered every one of the children of the gods. You're telling me you did that to teach a lesson?"
Dimitri shrugged. "Experiencing a challenge and pushing through it is different from hearing about it."
"I still don't understand," Carter said.
"I don't expect you too. All will make sense after one more challenge that will prove me right."
"Another challenge?"
Dimitri nodded. "Outside."
Carter didn't quite get what Dimitri was talking about, so instead asking questions he ran out of the First Nome and into the desert. The demigods stood up, startled by Carter's abrupt entrance. They were going to ask what was wrong until the wind started to pick up. Sand began swirling in front of them. If you could put the noisy sound of the wind aside you could hear the thunderous shouts of battle coming towards the Nome.
"What is that?" Percy asked in a shout. He pointed to the mass of sand coming at them.
"The rebels," Carter said.
"Maybe it's just a sandstorm," Leo hoped.
"I've never seen a sandstorm like that before," Zia said. Her and the others came out from their hiding places to stand next to the demigods.
"Bummer. That means we have to fight," Leo mumbled.
"Fight what? It's a bunch of sand," Percy said.
"No, it isn't. Look closer," Annabeth said.
They did and you could see shadows of figures forming. The sand began to leave their faces and in the front of the crowd was Anna on a giant serpent. "Definitely not a sandstorm," Sadie concluded.
I'm so sorry for updating so late. My district has had us testing for three weeks now. I also have had a terrible writer's block. Now that I'm off it I plan to finish this book up in two or three more chapters. Don't forget to vote and share your thoughts in the comment section.
