A/N: This is set just before RTTE Maybe a month or two, I don't know but they all still look the same.
No one's POV
A storm had passed through the Hooligan Tribe. This was a storm unlike any other and everyone was on edge.
The whole of Berk were in the Great Hall to wait out the storm and the gang were sitting on their usual table.
"Lets play 'scared of what?" Tuffnut cried and everyone agreed because they did need something to pass the time.
"Ok Ruffnut! What are you scared of?"
"Becoming you." She replied to her brother as if it was obvious.
"You have to wear my clothes for the rest of the night!"
"Fine." She said with a huff. They both went over and changed clothes.
"Astrid! What are you scared of? And you can't lie!"
"I'm scared of spiders..."
"No! really? Ok then you have to find a spider and let it sit on your hand for 10 seconds!"
"Oh—Okay..." She walked over to the corner of the room per Ruffs instructions and found a spider and let it sit on her hand for 10 seconds before she ran back over to the table hyperventilating.
"Babe, If you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm always here." Snoutlout winked at her and she twisted his arm behind his back and flipped him forward onto his face and sat back down.
"Thanks Snoutlout! I really needed that."
"That's what I'm here for," He said into the floor.
"Hiccup! What are you scared of? And remember no lying!"
"Um—You guys don't really want to know what I'm scared of do you?"
"Yes!"
"Ok... *Sigh* I'mscaredofbecomingcheif."
"What?" Everyone said in unison.
"I said I'm scared of becoming chief!" They all sat there shell-shocked. Hiccup got up and went over to Toothless and began to listen to his father try to calm people down. He hated seeing his father like this.
"Please everyone, calm down." Stoick had had a long day and he wasn't in the mood for all this shouting of questions like "When can we leave?" or "Why hasn't the storm passed yet?" or even "I thought the storms weren't this bad until extreme winter!".
He stood.
"EVERYONE SHUT UP!" Hiccup cried over the crowd. The room fell silent and was so quiet that you could only hear Toothless' snoring in the corner. Everyone stared at Hiccup. Who knew he had it in him?
"Thank you. And I am very sorry for yelling but as you can see the storm is not over so, no you can not leave the hall until Stoick says so. We also can not control the weather so we are also unsure as to why a storm this bad has hit so early but we are working on finding that out. I would love to hear all of your worries but I can't hear you all at once so if you have any concerns that I have not addressed then please come to me one at a time and we will do our best to soothe your problems and make this storm as bearable as possible. Thank you." Everyone just stared at this boy.
This was the boy that was shy and timid and never really took charge of them for he was only a small boy who everyone thought couldn't handle the pressures of being in charge.
They didn't know how right they were.
Hiccup sat back down and began to draw in his book when people came up to him. He stood and walked over to the front of the room near where the council were sitting and they just watched him deal with the situation that they could barley control.
"Please. My daughter and I are so cold that we can barley feel our limbs. Are there any spare blankets?" Hiccup looked around and spotted some in the corner.
"There are some over there. I will retrieve them for you but as well as the blankets you can use a dragon's body heat to help warm you." He gave a sweet smile as he went to the corner and gathered 2 blankets from the pile before turning to the crowd and calling out
"If you are cold please come to me and I will distribute the blankets as fairly as possible."
People began to come over and take the blankets and use them for warmth. The whole gang was watching this and they were a bit shocked that Hiccup had such a natural instinct to protect his village and he was acting... well he was acting like a chief.
The council men and women sat at their table and watched the young Hiccup provide blankets, food, water, anything really and they watched him do it and the young boy actually looked happy to be helping his village through the storm.
Hiccup saw to the last persons troubles and then went back and sat down with Toothless and began to draw and doodle anything really. He started to draw a person. He didn't know who it was but he knew he recognised him. He kept drawing and drawing until he realized what he had created.
He had drawn his father but not with his fathers face. With his own. He stared down at this image and after a few seconds he ripped it out and crumpled it up into a ball and put in the saddle bag that was on Toothless' side. This time he drew his fathers cloak but not on his father. On himself. He did the same with that drawing as he did with the last. He kept drawing things like this until his saddle bag was nearly full.
He finally realized what he was truly scared of...
He was scared he couldn't become his father.
Little did he know, his father was sitting at the table watching his son thinking about the great chief he would become.
