“Are you ready?” Cayden asked Amber, who nodded enthusiastically in response. Grinning, he then said, “Then let’s go!”
“Jeez, they treat the supermarket as if it’s their own personal playground,” Jeremy muttered, seeing Cayden push the trolley that Amber was in at a high speed, which caused her to giggle.
I gave no reply. I was too mesmerized by this so-called ‘supermarket’, which seemed to contain everything. Oria had unconsciously clutched my arm, goggle-eyed as she took in the displays. “Wow, they have everything,” she whispered to me. “This is amazing!”
I nodded in agreement to Oria’s words. It seemed to be a store that carried everything - certainly Hell had nothing even close to a supermarket! Right there and then, I thought that for all the faults, humans definitely had many great inventions, and the supermarket was one of them.
Jeremy, noticing our expressions, said, “What’s with the open mouths? Haven’t you two seen a supermarket before?”
Not wanting to sound stupid in front of someone who already disliked me, I retorted, “Of course I have! It’s just that there aren’t any supermarkets of this size in the area where I live.”
Surprisingly, Jeremy seemed to accept my reasoning. “This is a hypermarket, which means that they have more variety of things sold. I’m not surprised you haven’t seen one before.”
Oria and I made an ‘o’ with our mouths, impressed. To think that these humans have so many interesting innovations! They certainly are intelligent creatures, I thought.
“Anyway, we should probably go look for those two before they cause any trouble,” Jeremy remarked, taking out a device to which I had learnt that was a smartphone to call Cayden.
“Have they caused trouble before?” Oria asked.
Placing his phone to his ear, Jeremy winced. “Yeah, they did. One time they made so much noise that we were chased out of the supermarket. Thank goodness they did that at the town where we were visiting Gramps and not here, or we’ll have to drive to another town just to pick up groceries,” he said.
Cayden must have answered the phone then, for Jeremy said, “Hey, where are you two?” There was a pause, then Jeremy continued, “Okay, we’ll be coming down, wait for us there!”
Turning to us, he motioned for us to follow him. “Seems like Amber wants to eat ice cream too,” he sighed.
We quickly found them at the frozen food aisle, where Amber had a conflicted look on her face, which made her look more adorable. “I can’t decide on one flavor,” she pouted.
Cayden held two Ben & Jerry’s ice cream pints in his hands. Moving to take a closer look, I saw that one was ‘Chocolate Fudge Brownie’ and another ‘Chunky Monkey’. “What’s a brownie?” I asked, pointing to one of them.
Simultaneously, Jeremy, Cayden and Amber gave me looks of disbelief. “You don’t know what’s a brownie?” Cayden asked, surprised.
I shook my head. “No,” I confirmed.
Amber suddenly piped up. “Let’s bake brownies!” she suggested in an enthusiastic tone.
Cayden’s face lit up. “Great idea, angel!” he agreed cheerfully, ruffling his sister’s hair. He looked at me and continued, “We’re going to show you what brownies are! Prepare to get addicted to Cayden’s Amazing Brownies!”
After that announcement, we bought the groceries and the ingredients needed to bake brownies, then headed home. Perhaps I was too excited at the prospect of eating this human confection, but I failed to notice a blonde woman staring at us in shock, not until she made herself known to us later.
